DeepL is a global AI product and research company focused on building secure, intelligent solutions to complex business problems. Over 200,000 business customers and millions of individuals across 228 global markets today trust DeepL's Language AI platform for human-like translation, improved writing and real-time voice translation. Founded in 2017, DeepL now has around 1,000 passionate employees and is supported by world-renowned investors including Benchmark, IVP, and Index Ventures. Our goal is to become the global leader in trusted, intelligent AI technology, building products that drive better communication, foster connections, and create a meaningful impact.

You will join the Identity and Access Management team, owning DeepL's full identity stack: organisation, account and session management, SSO federation, SCIM provisioning, and the OIDC provider, for both internal and external users. It is the foundation every DeepL product relies on to authenticate and authorise users securely and at scale. When identity is unavailable, no one can log in, so reliability and performance sit at the heart of everything the team does.

Your responsibilities:

  • Own the Identity Experience End-to-End: You will architect and build complex, user-facing features across our identity stack. You will own business-critical systems from the initial problem definition through to architectural design, deployment, and production reliability.
  • Build for "Consumer-Grade" Enterprise: You understand that authentication and authorization systems cannot fail. You build for reliability and maintainability, while delivering a user-friendly experience.
  • Collaborate to Raise the Bar: You will work closely with teammates across Identity and adjacent teams - other product teams, Product Management and Support.
  • Drive Technical Pragmatism: Whether using our core stack (C#/.NET Core, Kubernetes, Postgres) or exploring new tools, you choose the technology that solves the customer problem most effectively.

Qualities we look for:

  • Extreme Ownership & Operational Excellence: You own your services end-to-end and you're motivated by pushing reliability toward four nines.
  • A "System Thinker" Mindset: You understand failure modes, system boundaries, and how your code impacts the broader architecture at scale.
  • Backend Mastery at Scale (C# / .NET): You have deep expertise designing scalable backend systems and distributed architectures.
  • Enterprise Domain Curiosity: You are interested in the hard problems of B2B SaaS Identity - authentication, authorization, and requirements such as security and auditing.
  • AI-Native Velocity: You leverage AI-powered tools to accelerate your velocity and eliminate repetitive toil.

A Note on Our Hiring Process: DeepL hires for the Company, not just a specific team. We operate a Unified Engineering Pipeline. If you pass our bar, we will match you to the highest-priority role that fits your skillset.

What we offer:

  • Diverse and internationally distributed team: joining our team means becoming part of a large, global community with people of more than 90 nationalities.
  • Open communication, regular feedback: we value the importance of clear, honest communication.
  • Hybrid work, flexible hours: we offer a hybrid work schedule, with team members coming into the office twice a week.
