The Healthcare Strategy Director is responsible for shaping best-in-class healthcare strategy, medical communications, brand thinking, and engagement approaches across key agency accounts and major new business opportunities. This role requires an experienced strategist who can translate complex scientific and healthcare insights into compelling narratives, campaigns, and experiences that drive behaviour change, improve patient outcomes, and deliver measurable business impact.
The successful candidate will bring strong experience across healthcare communications, medical strategy, campaign development, and live/digital engagement. They will be comfortable working across multiple channels, including events, congresses, exhibition booth design and experiences, and experiential activations, immersive experiences, and emerging technologies. The individual will partner cross-functionally with production, creative, clinical, medical, and regulatory teams to ensure strategic recommendations are grounded in insight, scientific rigour, and audience understanding. A strong commercial ethos will be important, as this role works closely with the head of Jack Health and Life Sciences.
Some experience from broader sectors (example, consumer, technology, telecoms, finance, or engineering) is a significant consideration in this appointment, as the wider knowledge we believe contributes to bringing new ideas to the healthcare and life-sciences space.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership & Client Partnership: Own and deliver high-quality, original, and actionable strategic thinking across allocated client accounts and new business opportunities. Act as a trusted strategic partner to senior clients, providing proactive counsel on healthcare trends, scientific developments, customer needs, and changing market dynamics. Develop strategic recommendations across areas including insight generation, brand strategy, positioning, messaging, campaign development, engagement planning, and concept testing. Translate audience insights and business challenges into clear strategic direction that inspires creative and experience-led solutions.
- Scientific Storytelling & Communications Excellence: Translate complex clinical and scientific data into clear, compelling, and differentiated narratives. Develop strategic approaches for medical communications campaigns that engage healthcare professionals, patients, and wider healthcare audiences. Partner closely with creative teams to ensure ideas are strategically grounded, impactful, and aligned with client objectives. Ensure all outputs balance scientific accuracy, regulatory considerations, creativity, and audience engagement. Champion innovative approaches to storytelling across multiple channels, including digital, experiential, and immersive platforms.
- Experience, Events & Digital Engagement: Bring direct experience developing or supporting healthcare experiences, events, congresses, and trade shows. Understand how live, digital, and hybrid experiences can work together to create meaningful audience engagement. Demonstrate knowledge and interest in emerging engagement approaches, including immersive environments, interactive spaces, augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), mixed reality (MR), and experiential technology. Apply audience insights to create engaging experiences that support communication objectives and behaviour change.
- Therapeutic Expertise & Insight Generation: Analyse category, competitive, cultural, and behavioural insights to identify opportunities and strategic implications. Understand customer journeys and identify unmet needs, barriers, and opportunities for engagement. Maintain a strong understanding of healthcare environments, clinical practice, treatment pathways, and market dynamics. Apply insights from research, data, and audience understanding to inform strategic recommendations.
- Campaign Strategy & Development: Develop integrated campaign strategies that connect scientific objectives with creative execution. Bring experience in medical communications, campaign planning, and brand activation. Collaborate with creative, medical, and client teams to develop impactful, audience-led solutions.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with client services, medical, creative, production, and analytics teams to ensure strategic alignment. Support effective communication across teams, helping maintain momentum and quality across projects. Identify challenges early and contribute to keeping projects coordinated and on track.
- Market & Category Intelligence: Conduct desk research, competitive reviews, environmental scans, and cultural trend analysis. Develop strategic briefs and insights that enable creative and project teams to deliver effective solutions. Use segmentation and audience insights to support strategic decision-making. Be able to commission and/or scope primary market research studies for thought-leadership initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Significant experience in healthcare strategy, medical communications, brand strategy, campaign development, or a related field.
- Strong experience within a healthcare communications agency, medical communications environment, or similar setting (typically 7–10 years).
- Proven experience developing healthcare campaigns and communications strategies.
- Direct experience supporting or delivering live experiences, events, congresses, and ideally trade shows.
- Experience across digital engagement, ideally including immersive or experiential technologies such as AR, VR, MR, interactive environments, or digital experiences beyond traditional websites and apps.
- Experience working across global brands and complex stakeholder environments.
- Experience beyond healthcare/life sciences is highly desirable, bringing broader consumer, brand, experiential, or communications perspectives.
- Commercial experience, including account growth or new business contribution, would be beneficial but is not essential.
- Ability to manage priorities in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.
- Strong understanding of healthcare systems, clinical research, and regulatory considerations.
