Company Description: Rivan Industries - Synthetic fuel startup decarbonising heavy industry.
As Senior Controls Engineer, you will own the reliability of deployed systems and architect the control infrastructure for a 1,000x fleet expansion. You will bridge the gap between pilot operations and global scale, standardising PLC and SCADA patterns while ensuring rigorous safety compliance across modular DAC, electrolyser, and reactor systems.
Location: London, UK
Why this role is remarkable:
- Lead the engineering effort to 1000x the scale of the UK’s largest synthetic fuel plant within the next two years.
- Work at the intersection of thermodynamics and electrochemistry with a team of top-tier engineers from Imperial and Cambridge.
- Exceptional benefits including significant equity, unlimited time off, and a £6,000/year stipend to live near the Bermondsey HQ.
What you will do:
- Design and implement scalable control architectures and telemetry patterns that transition from pilot deployments to thousands of modular sites.

- Develop remote diagnostics and fleet-wide monitoring capabilities to maintain the performance and reliability of distributed industrial systems.
The ideal candidate:
- Proven track record leading the design and commissioning of distributed control systems in high-energy process or industrial environments.
- Deep technical expertise in IEC 61131-3 (Codesys/PLC), HMI development, and industrial communications like Modbus, CANbus, and OPC-UA.
- A first-principles thinker with high ownership, comfortable with the intensity of a fast-scaling hardware startup and complex industrial troubleshooting.
