Company Description: Plural-backed synthetic fuel startup with £10M Seed funding.

Job Description: You will own the AC power architecture for the UK’s largest synthetic fuel plant, designing systems that convert renewable energy into carbon‑neutral methane. By bridging the gap between direct air capture and high‑power electrolysis, you will eliminate technical bottlenecks to help the company scale its modular plant technology 1000x within two years.

Location: London, UK.

Why this role is remarkable:

  • Work at the frontier of deep‑tech decarbonization with backing from high‑profile investors including Plural, the Stripe founders, and Nat Friedman.
  • Experience a high‑velocity engineering culture where your designs move from CAD to commissioned industrial hardware in weeks, not years.
  • Benefit from a unique compensation package including £6,000/year extra to live near the Bermondsey HQ and significant early‑team equity.

What You Will Do:

  • Take full ownership of AC power system architecture, including power distribution, protection strategies, and panel design for modular chemical plants.
  • Design and integrate 3‑phase systems, pumps, and heaters across direct‑air‑capture units and alkaline electrolysers.
  • Lead panel certification activities (CE/UKCA) and contribute to functional safety via HAZOPs, FMEAs, and SIL/PL determination.

The ideal candidate:

  • 5+ years of industrial electrical design experience working with power systems, industrial machinery, or complex process environments.
  • Expert proficiency in electrical CAD tools such as Solidworks Electrical, EPLAN, or AutoCAD for producing detailed schematics.
  • Deep understanding of functional safety standards (IEC 61508) and experience navigating the Machinery and Low Voltage Directives.
