Position Title: Head of Commercial

Reports to: Managing Director

Location: Glossop, Derbyshire

The Role:

The Head of Commercial is responsible for driving sustained commercial growth for our highly bespoke joinery business. Working in close partnership with the Design Director, this role ensures a strong, proactive sales pipeline while bringing structure, discipline and commercial clarity to every stage of the client journey. This role requires a highly motivated commercial leader who is comfortable pushing opportunities forward, maintaining momentum and converting interest into confirmed work, while respecting the craft-led, detail-driven nature of our business. Success comes from intelligent persistence, exceptional organisation and the ability to balance ambition with realism.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Sales Leadership & Commercial Drive
  • Take ownership of driving sales performance and delivering agreed revenue targets
  • Actively manage and progress all sales opportunities, ensuring consistent forward momentum
  • Identify, develop and convert new business opportunities within our target market
  • Build confidence with clients through clarity, credibility and decisive commercial leadership
  • Maintain focus and urgency across the sales pipeline without compromising quality or values
  • Client Relationships & Representation
    • Lead client relationships from first enquiry through to contract completion
    • Develop long-term relationships with high-net-worth clients, consultants and professional partners
    • Represent the business as a trusted, professional and commercially astute brand ambassador
    • Manage expectations clearly and proactively throughout the sales and pre-delivery phases
  • CRM, Sales Data & Commercial Discipline
    • Own and maintain the company CRM system, ensuring all enquiries, opportunities and communications are accurately recorded
    • Maintain clear, structured and reliable sales data to support forecasting and decision-making
    • Track progress of all live opportunities and intervene early where momentum slows
    • Produce regular pipeline, forecasting and performance reports for leadership review
    • Bring rigour and consistency to sales administration, ensuring no opportunity is lost through poor process
  • Pricing, Contracts & Invoicing
    • Lead the development and maintenance of pricing structures and rate cards in collaboration with the Design Director
    • Ensure all proposals, quotations and variations are commercially sound, clearly presented and issued promptly
    • Take responsibility for contract documentation and final commercial sign-off
    • Oversee invoicing aligned to project milestones, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
    • Monitor cashflow closely and manage payment follow-ups professionally and persistently
    • Resolve commercial queries or discrepancies quickly, protecting both client relationships and business performance
  • Collaboration, Values & Leadership
    • Work in close partnership with the Design Director, aligning commercial drive with creative ambition
    • Support a joined-up approach between sales, design and workshop teams
    • Operate with integrity, transparency and reliability at all times
    • Demonstrate respect for craftsmanship, people and process
    • Lead by example in organisation, communication and accountability

    Required Skills and Experience:

    • Relentlessly driven to deliver results, while remaining thoughtful and measured in approach
    • Highly organised, disciplined and comfortable managing complex sales administration
    • Confident managing CRM systems, commercial data and reporting
    • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and build trust
    • Comfortable operating in a bespoke, detail-led environment where collaboration is essential
    • Calm, resilient and solutions-focused under pressure
    • Proven experience in a senior commercial, sales or business development role
    • Demonstrable success in driving revenue growth and managing complex sales pipelines
    • Strong experience with CRM systems, pricing and invoicing processes
    • Experience within high-end, bespoke or design-led businesses highly desirable
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
