LOCATION: JACE Private Hospital / Day Procedure Unit, GREYSTEEL

HOURS: 30-37.5hrs per week

SALARY: £33,000-£37,000 depending on experience

Professional Registration & Compliance (ESSENTIAL)

  • Registered Nurse (Adult) with the NMC
  • Up-to-date NMC revalidation, CPD, and mandatory training
  • Evidence of right to work and compliance with RQIA employment checks
  • Knowledge of NMC Code, Duty of Candour, GDPR, safeguarding

Clinical Experience (ESSENTIAL)

  • Minimum 3 post-registration experience in an acute clinical setting
  • Experience in at least one of the following: Endoscopy Theatre, Surgical ward, Day procedure unit
  • Ability to care for patients undergoing gastroscopy, colonoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, and minor therapeutic procedures

Endoscopy-Specific Competence (ESSENTIAL)

  • Understanding of the endoscopy patient pathway (pre-assessment – procedure – recovery – discharge)
  • Ability to assist with: Scope handling, Biopsy collection, Polypectomy support, Snare and diathermy safety, Specimen labelling and documentation
  • Knowledge of JAG standards, decontamination principles, and infection control
  • Ability to recognise and respond to complications such as: Bleeding, Perforation, Sedation-related airway compromise

Sedation & Airway Management (ESSENTIAL)

  • Competent in monitoring sedated patients
  • Ability to recognise oversedation and airway obstruction
  • Skilled in basic airway manoeuvres (jaw thrust, OPA/NPA)
  • ILS certification (or willingness to complete on appointment)
  • Understanding of sedation scoring tools (e.g., Ramsay)

Monitoring & Patient Assessment (ESSENTIAL)

  • Competent in ECG, SpO2, BP, respiratory rate, and ETCO2 monitoring
  • Ability to assess patient stability pre- and post-procedure
  • Knowledge of early warning scores and escalation pathways
  • Ability to provide safe discharge criteria for day-case endoscopy

Infection Prevention & Decontamination (ESSENTIAL)

  • Strong understanding of infection control principles
  • Knowledge of endoscope decontamination workflow (even if not performing it)
  • Ability to maintain a clean, safe clinical environment
  • Aware of HTM 01-06 and JAG decontamination standards

Documentation & Governance (ESSENTIAL)

  • Accurate documentation aligned with NMC and RQIA standards
  • Understanding of consent, capacity, and patient information requirements
  • Ability to report incidents and near misses (Datix or equivalent)
  • Aware of audit processes (JAG audits, scope traceability, safety checks)

Communication & Teamwork (ESSENTIAL)

  • Excellent communication with endoscopists, ODPs, HCAs, and recovery staff
  • Ability to provide clear patient information and reassurance
  • Strong teamwork skills in a fast-paced, procedure-driven environment
  • Ability to prioritise and manage multiple patients safely

Personal Qualities (ESSENTIAL)

  • Calm, professional, and patient-centred

  • JAG-recognised Endoscopy Course
  • Cannulation and IV drug administration
  • Experience in decontamination units
  • Previous private healthcare experience
