Professional Requirements (ESSENTIAL)
- Registered Nurse (NMC) with active PIN.
- Compliance with NMC code, Duty of Candour, GDPR.
- Up to date mandatory training and revalidation.
Clinical Experience (ESSENTIAL)
- 3 years post registration experience in perioperative practice.
- Competence in:
- Scrub and circulating roles
- WHO Surgical Safety Checklist
- Aseptic technique
- Infection prevention & control
- Surgical instrumentation
- Diathermy safety
- Specimen handling
- Ability to work independently without direct supervision (consistent with Band 6 theatre profiles).
Leadership & Responsibility (ESSENTIAL)
- Lead shifts or theatre lists.
- Supervise junior staff and HCAs.
- Provide mentorship and support training.
- Manage equipment, stock, and safety checks.
- Escalate clinical concerns appropriately.
Governance & Quality (ESSENTIAL)
- Participate in audits (IPC, documentation, equipment).
- Support incident reporting and learning.
- Maintain high standards of documentation and safety.
- Understand RQIA/NICE/NMC governance frameworks.
(DESIRABLE)
- ILS certification.
- Experience in multiple specialities (plastics, dermatology, ENT, gynae, endoscopy).
- Experience in private healthcare settings.
- Ability to coordinate theatre lists independently.
- Experience with quality improvement or SOP development.
