Position: Packaging and Environmental Compliance Lead

Employment Type: Permanent /Full-time

Salary: Β£40K-50K/annum

Location: Within the UK (Europe can also be considered.)

Key responsibilities

  • Monitor and implement applicable UK, EU and country-specific packaging legislation, including the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation and Extended Producer Responsibility requirements.

  • Identify the packaging registrations, reporting, fees, recycling information and labelling requirements applicable in each country where products are sold.

  • Manage UK and EU packaging registrations, declarations and periodic EPR reporting, ensuring submissions are accurate and completed on time.

  • Collect packaging and sales data from HQ, SCM, factories, suppliers and distributors, and follow up missing or inconsistent information.

  • Maintain accurate packaging data covering materials, component weights, composition, recyclability and recycled content.

  • Work with external compliance schemes, consultants and experts, relevant national compliance providers.

  • Maintain packaging specifications, technical documentation, supplier declarations, certificates, test reports and supporting compliance records.

  • Coordinate packaging and artwork updates for products, including mandatory information, environmental claims, recycling symbols and local-language requirements.

  • Support compliance activities for products, including applicable requirements and maintenance of Safety Data Sheets.

  • Provide support with products quality and regulatory activities when required, under the direction of the Regulatory and Quality Assurance Manager.

  • Support wider QMS activities as required, including document control, training records, change controls, non-conformances, CAPAs, supplier qualification and audits.

  • Support qualification, review and audit of packaging suppliers and external service providers.

  • Prepare and maintain relevant procedures, work instructions, trackers, training records and audit evidence.

  • Monitor regulatory changes and clearly communicate their impact, required actions, responsible owners and deadlines.

  • Improve and streamline packaging-data collection and reporting processes, including use of suitable digital tools where practical.

  • Support internal and external audits and respond to packaging-compliance queries from clients, customers, authorities and other business partners.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Experience in packaging compliance, environmental compliance, regulatory affairs, quality assurance or a related role.

  • Working knowledge of UK and EU packaging regulations and EPR requirements, with the ability to research and implement country-specific obligations.

  • Experience collecting, checking and reporting data from multiple teams or suppliers.

  • Strong Excel or equivalent data-management skills and confidence using reporting portals and trackers.

  • Good attention to detail and the ability to manage routine administrative work accurately alongside regulatory projects.

  • Strong organisation, follow-up and deadline-management skills.

  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain requirements to non-specialists.

  • Ability to work independently and escalate significant risks or delays promptly.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Practical experience with EU PPWR implementation, UK packaging EPR or packaging EPR schemes in one or more EU Member States.

  • Experience working with producer-responsibility organisations or external environmental-compliance providers.

  • Knowledge of artwork review.

  • Experience in healthcare or another regulated industry.

  • Experience with quality systems, supplier audits, change control, non-conformances and CAPA.
