Junior Sales Trader – Japanese Equities

We are currently supporting the search for a Junior Sales Trader to join a London-based equities business with a focus on Japanese equities.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone early in their sales trading or equity career to gain hands‑on exposure to global institutional clients, cross‑border equity trading, and close collaboration with a Tokyo‑based trading desk.

The Role

You will support senior sales traders in servicing institutional clients while executing Japanese equity orders and coordinating across time zones. This role offers strong learning and development opportunities within a fast‑paced, international trading environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Support senior sales traders in covering institutional clients, including asset managers and hedge funds
• Execute client orders in Japanese equities with accuracy and efficiency
• Monitor Japanese market movements, news flow, and corporate events
• Provide clients with market colour, trade ideas, and execution updates
• Liaise closely with the Tokyo trading desk to ensure seamless order handling
• Coordinate trading activity across different market sessions and time zones
• Work closely with internal teams including research, compliance, and operations
• Assist with trade booking, reporting, and post‑trade processes
• Ensure full compliance with FCA regulations and internal policies

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree (Finance, Economics, or a related field preferred)
• Up to 5 years of experience in sales trading, trading, or equity‑related roles
• Strong interest in global equity markets, particularly Japan
• Fluent English communication skills
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure
• Comfortable working across time zones in a fast‑paced environment
• Strong numerical, analytical, and interpersonal skills
• Team‑oriented, proactive, and professional mindset
• Japanese language skills are welcomed but not required for this role

Nice to Have

• Experience trading equities outside of your home market
• Exposure to offshore or Asia‑based trading desks
• Experience with overnight or cross‑market order management
• Familiarity with Bloomberg, Reuters, or similar trading platforms
• Understanding of Asian equity markets (Japan experience is a plus)
