Position Summary

The Senior Compliance Specialist is a mid‑level Trade Compliance professional responsible for leading complex compliance activities and supporting customer‑focused trade compliance activities across assigned operations, including leading complex customs, export control, Inward Processing Relief (IPR), and logistics compliance activities supporting assigned business operations.

This role serves as a subject matter expert on customs compliance, import/export regulations, export licensing, special customs procedures, and trade compliance governance.

Key responsibilities include the development and implementation of customs and trade compliance procedures, advanced compliance reviews, management of higher‑risk customs and export control matters, and guidance on regulatory risk mitigation.

The role requires the ability to apply customs and trade compliance requirements to nuanced operational situations, influence cross‑functional stakeholders, and support continuous improvement of compliance controls and processes.

Working arrangement: Hybrid, with regular visits to the Retronix site required to support operational activities and stakeholder engagement and administrative coordination.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and perform advanced customs, trade compliance and export control reviews across assigned operations.
  • Manage complex customs compliance activities, including Inward Processing Relief (IPR) requirements, customs declaration controls, CPC code application, discharge requirements, and record retention obligations.
  • Conduct reviews of import and export transactions, including post‑entry amendments, customs corrections, exception handling, and compliance‑sensitive shipments.
  • Assess compliance risks associated with imports, exports, and customs activities.
  • Support export licensing activities, including product classification reviews, controlled goods assessments, license applications, renewals, reporting requirements, and license condition monitoring.
  • Review end‑user, end‑use, military undertaking, and customer compliance documentation to ensure compliance with applicable export control regulations.
  • Support sanctions compliance activities, denied party screening reviews, and trade compliance due diligence processes.
  • Maintain oversight of customs, trade compliance, and regulatory documentation within ERP and logistics systems to ensure records remain accurate, complete, and audit‑ready.
  • Prepare and coordinate responses to internal audits, external audits, customs reviews, and regulatory inspections.
  • Provide guidance and support to Operations, Logistics, Customer Service, Finance, Procurement, and Supply Chain stakeholders on customs and trade compliance requirements.
  • Analyze compliance risks, identify process gaps, and support development and implementation of corrective actions and process improvements.
  • Support the development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of customs and trade compliance procedures, work instructions, internal controls, and compliance documentation.

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience (focus in International Trade, Customs, Supply Chain, Business, Logistics, Law, or related field preferred).
  • Advanced professional certification on Customs, Customs Practitioner, Export Controls Certification, or equivalent preferred.
  • Regional and global education equivalencies accepted.
  • Equivalent experience may be accepted in place of degree requirements.

Experience Requirements

  • 4–9+ years of relevant experience in Trade Compliance, Customs Compliance, Logistics Compliance, International Trade, Export Controls, or Regulatory Affairs.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting customs compliance programs and import/export operations.
  • Experience supporting Inward Processing Relief (IPR) or other customs special procedures.
  • Experience supporting export controls, product classifications, licensing, sanctions, and restricted party screening activities.
  • Experience supporting customs audits, regulatory inquiries, compliance assessments, and corrective action activities.
  • Experience working with customs management systems, ERP platforms, customs reporting tools, and trade compliance records management processes.
  • Key Skills and Knowledge
  • In‑depth knowledge of international trade regulations, customs compliance requirements, and import/export processes.
  • Strong understanding of Inward Processing Relief (IPR), customs declarations, CPC codes, customs record‑keeping requirements, and customs valuation concepts.
  • Advanced knowledge of export controls, product classification methodologies, export licensing, sanctions compliance, and denied party screening requirements.
  • Advanced analytical, documentation, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, stakeholder engagement, and communication abilities.
  • Experience supporting audits, investigations, regulatory reviews, and corrective action implementation.
  • Ability to independently manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced, global environment.
  • Ability to interpret and apply complex customs and trade regulations to operational business activities.
