JAB Recruitment is looking to source a Marine Superintendent on behalf of our client, a leading service provider to the global offshore industry, excelling in the management and operation of support vessels. This role will be based in Aberdeen, with worldwide travel required.
Role Overview
The Marine Superintendent provides specialist operational knowledge, support, and advice to vessels and onshore teams across all matters relating to marine operations, safety, health, environment, and maritime regulatory compliance. The role ensures that vessels operate safely and remain fully compliant at all times and during all activities. The position also undertakes the responsibilities of Deputy Designated Person Ashore (DPA) and Deputy Company Security Officer (CSO).
Accountability & Key Performance Areas
- Ensure marine risks are clearly identified and captured within project and client planning activities
- Provide robust support and guidance to the Chartering team for new business and tender opportunities
- Ensure lessons learned are captured, implemented, and embedded in a timely manner
- Support the delivery of operational efficiencies and continuous improvement initiatives across the fleet
- Demonstrate strong knowledge of, and adherence to, the Business Management System (BMS) framework and governance
- Ensure onboard management teams are adequately supported in all marine operational matters
- Promote and encourage positive workforce engagement and a strong QHSE culture
- Demonstrate behaviours and attitudes aligned with, and supportive of, company core values
Main Duties & Responsibilities
Safety Management & Compliance
- Operate within and ensure vessel compliance with the approved Safety Management System (SMS)
- Assist in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the SMS
- Promote safe and effective working practices compliant with legislation and company policy
- Ensure vessels maintain Flag State and Class certification requirements
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of maritime legislation, IMCA guidelines, and industry standards
Audits, Inspections & Assurance
- Conduct regular vessel inspections and internal audits to verify compliance with SOLAS, MARPOL, Load Line, STCW, ILO Conventions, and applicable industry codes
- Identify non-conformances and ensure corrective action plans are implemented and closed out
- Act as focal point for third-party audits, CMIDs/OVIDs, and client inspections
- Track, manage, and close out audit findings in a timely manner
Operations & Risk Management
- Proactively manage and monitor vessel operational risks through continuous improvement of procedures and onboard environments
- Review charterer and project procedures to ensure compliance with safety, operational, stability, and technical standards
- Participate in project meetings and risk assessments to ensure marine risks are clearly understood and mitigated
- Manage vessel assurance requirements and marine documentation submissions for new tenders
- Work with vessels, QHSE teams, and subcontractors to ensure incidents are fully investigated
- Monitor corrective and preventative actions to ensure timely close-out
- Act as a member of the Emergency Response Team and support emergency response exercises
Crew, Data & Operational Support
- Assist with interviewing and briefing senior officers on marine and safety matters prior to mobilisation
- Monitor and administer routine vessel reporting including DPRs, safety committee minutes, and improvement suggestions
- Monitor and trend vessel operational data (e.g. fuel consumption, uptime) for reporting purposes
- Provide specialist DP operational knowledge and support to the Ship Management team
- Support the management of safety equipment and safety systems onboard vessels
- Monitor shipboard drug and alcohol testing programmes
General
- Undertake regular vessel visits
- Perform the duties of Deputy DPA and Deputy CSO
- Carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by the Line Manager
Experience, Competency & Skills
Qualifications & Certification
- Minimum Class II (Deck) Certificate of Competency
- DP Certificate with prior experience serving onboard DP vessels
