Main Purpose of Job:
The purpose of the Technical Excellence Team Lead role is to facilitate and drive continuous improvement throughout all aspects of the vessel’s technical performance, ensuring fleet reliability and uptime is maximised. Develop, improve and ensure robust procedures, maintenance systems and regimes are in place for the technical management of the vessels in line with legislative requirements and industry best practice. Assess, recommend, implement and manage proactive, strategic projects within the business that will contribute to improved efficiency and reliability of the vessels and meet business objectives.

- Maintains and promotes technical excellence in all aspects of the operations.
- Maintain and continually improve the systems and processes to ensure safe and reliable assets.
- Implement proactive maintenance strategies based on operating experience and a risk-based approach.
- Utilises condition-based monitoring to monitor the performance of key plant and machinery.
- Ensures defective conditions are addressed and closed in a timely manner.
- Identify and undertake strategic technical projects which will enhance the performance and service delivery of the fleet.
- Provide technical expertise, support and governance to the fleet management team ensuring the assets managed are best in class.
- Maintain a high level of effective communication and engagement across the business and the fleet.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support the vessel management team with technical expertise to ensure that the fleet is maintained and operated in line with all regulatory requirements, industry best practices and guidelines.
- Monitoring and reporting on defects raised from the vessels, ensuring they are successfully closed out in a timely manner.
- Identify and mitigate technical and operational risk through proactive maintenance strategies and a data-driven approach.
- Establish, implement and evaluate KPI’s / operational dashboards to ensure performance targets are achieved and communicate insights to key stakeholders to enable informed decision making.
- Responsible for ensuring that the CMMS is functional, robust and kept up to date.
- Compare and contrast the operational performance of the vessels within the fleet, investigating reasoning for any difference in performance and sharing the same.
- Maintain and develop the maintenance procedures within the BMS ensuring they are concise and meet all regulatory and industry requirements.
- Ensure all technical failures and breakdowns are thoroughly investigated to understand the root cause, lessons learned and associated findings shared across the fleet.
- Establish and roll out condition-based monitoring across the fleet for key plant and machinery.
- Undertake technical and maintenance audits across the fleet to ensure compliance and verify that corrective actions have been successfully implemented.
- Assess and implement new innovative technologies, digital tools and different ways of working to enhance overall fleet reliability, technical performance, reduce downtime and improve decision making.
- Develop and maintain the critical spares inventory for the vessels, ensuring that the spares holding for each vessel and the fleet is always suitable and sufficient.
- Identify and undertake key strategic projects that will enhance the reliability and performance of the fleet. Make investment cases and recommendations as necessary.
- Provide robust project management services from within the team to ensure internal projects are adequately planned, resourced and delivered on time and budget.
- Proactive planning of planned maintenance periods for the vessels to utilise maintenance days available under the charter parties.
- Overall responsibility for the planning and management of dry-docking periods, ensuring work scopes are clearly identified and quality, safety and resource plans are in place prior to the commencement of the project.
- Day to day line management of the technical excellence team, providing coaching and mentoring to the team as required.
- Work cross-functionally with other teams to ensure seamless support for the vessels to ensure client expectations are met and exceeded.
- Represent Client internally and externally, developing and maintaining beneficial relationships within internal and external customers, suppliers and government agencies.
- Member of the emergency response team and participate in drills and scenarios as required.
- Any other duties that may be reasonably requested by your line manager.
Experience, Competency, and Skill Requirements:
- Educated to degree level in an engineering discipline (marine, mechanical, naval architecture).
- Extensive previous experience working in similar Technical Excellence / Technical Manager roles with holistic experience of the marine and offshore industry.
- Recognised project management qualification (APM, PRINCE) and experienced in managing complex engineering projects including dry dockings.
- Well versed with quality management standards including ISM Code, ISO, Lean, Six Sigma.
- Experience in building and developing maintenance management systems in compliance with relevant standards, legislative requirements and industry practices.
- Culturally aware and experience of working and supporting operations in different global regions.
- Strong leadership, management and interpersonal skills with experience in managing a diverse team.
- Ability to and experience in successfully leading and implementing change management programs.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
