JAB Recruitment is supporting a client with the appointment of an experienced Naval Architect to join their engineering team in Glasgow. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering experience to support projects from concept and feasibility design through to engineering release for manufacture, with involvement in complex marine and potentially submersible systems.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Structural design and analysis
  • Trim, weight and stability analysis
  • Hull form assessment, including stability, hydrodynamic performance and seakeeping
  • Development of deck layouts and load-out plans
  • Ship general arrangements and configuration drawings
  • Concept development and feasibility studies
  • Design integration across multiple engineering disciplines
  • Review and approval of Naval Architecture deliverables
  • Preparation and support of Class submissions
  • Technical review of drawings, specifications and engineering documentation
  • Supporting equipment mobilisation and demobilisation activities
  • Liaising with customers, suppliers, production, procurement and wider engineering teams

We are particularly interested in candidates with:

  • A degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering or a relevant engineering discipline
  • Strong practical Naval Architecture design experience
  • Knowledge of LR, DNV, Class Standards, National Standards and IMCA requirements
  • Experience applying regulatory requirements to vessel modifications and marine engineering designs
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 and ISO 45001
  • Experience with Product Lifecycle Management systems
  • Chartered Engineer status or another relevant professional qualification would be advantageous
  • Previous experience with submersibles would be particularly beneficial.

The role will require some UK and international travel, and candidates must be able to obtain the required security clearance and hold a full UK driving licence.
