Onshore Mechanical Technician – Barrow-in-Furness
JAB Recruitment is currently sourcing an experienced Onshore Mechanical Technician on behalf of our client, supporting a major gas production and processing facility in Barrow-in-Furness.
The successful candidate will undertake planned and reactive mechanical maintenance, defect repair and plant support activities to ensure the safe, reliable and efficient operation of production equipment.
Key responsibilities:
- Complete routine and non-routine mechanical maintenance and repairs
- Investigate complex technical faults and return critical plant to service
- Support commissioning, decommissioning and plant modification activities
- Prepare technical reports and maintain accurate maintenance records
- Supervise contractors and vendor personnel during specific work scopes
- Ensure appropriate permits and safe systems of work are in place
- Promote strong process safety, HSE and regulatory compliance
- Participate in emergency response duties and maintain the required competencies
Candidate requirements:
- Several years of mechanical maintenance experience within the oil and gas, petrochemical or process industries
- Previous offshore mechanical experience within the E&P sector is highly desirable
- Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles and process systems
- Experience working within permit-to-work and safe isolation procedures
- BTEC Ordinary Certificate, apprenticeship or equivalent qualification in a relevant engineering discipline
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Strong fault-finding, organisational and problem-solving capabilities
- Ability to work collaboratively with maintenance, operations, electrical and instrumentation teams
- Emergency response, firefighting, breathing apparatus, first aid or crane-operation training would be advantageous

An important note on rotation/duration: We are working with a ‘week on-week off’ rota (11-hour shift) until 30 September, this will change to a 9-day fortnight (9-hour shift) thereafter.
