Our mission is to help the mental health of one billion people and democratise mental health support, making it accessible, engaging and stigma-free for everyone.

We are B2B2C with a growing consumer facing platform with goals to reach millions of MAU every month, currently in over 90 markets with the UK and US as our primary focuses. We also have a growing range of B2B propositions ranging from JAAQ Studio to JAAQ for business with more propositions launching through 2025. Our ambitions are big and unmatched in the mental health and wellness space. Our platforms have answered over 2 million questions and we work with over 350 (growing every week) doctors and clinicians, celebrities and people with lived experience.

Role Overview

As an Engineering Leader you will be shaping the architecture, culture, and future of a platform designed to scale to millions of users, and to redefine how humanity interacts with knowledge and health. You're still close enough to the code to open a PR, review a design doc, or jump into a debugging session, but you lead through technical clarity, simplicity, and conviction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and grow a multi-disciplinary engineering organisation across Experience, AI/ML, Data, and Cloud platforms, each designed to operate as part of a cohesive architecture.
  • Set the engineering vision: define what "world-class" means in reliability, scalability, and developer experience.
  • Build engineering as a craft: review design documents, inspect PRs, challenge assumptions, and elevate technical decision-making.
  • Collaborate closely with Product, Design, and Clinical to ensure our technology is not just beautiful and fast, but clinically safe and ethically sound.
  • Establish strong architectural and operational patterns: testing automation, observability, continuous delivery, and platform-level reusability.
  • Inspire through action: you'll code, mentor, and model how high-agency engineering leaders think and build.
  • Sit at the core of a mission-driven organisation that fuses clinical science and AI.
  • Architect systems that will reach billions, responsibly.

What We're Looking For

  • 10+ years in software engineering leadership with proven experience scaling modern cloud-native architectures (AWS, GCP, microservices, event-driven).
  • Strong software fundamentals: you can still review code, assess complexity, and spot risk before it hits production.
  • Depth in one or more of: distributed systems, data engineering, applied ML, or high-performance front-end systems.
  • You value simplicity, documentation, and craftsmanship.
  • Empathy for users and engineers alike, you build teams where great engineers stay and grow.

Why Join JAAQ?

  • Be part of a mission-driven organisation making a tangible difference in mental health accessibility.
  • Collaborate with a passionate, innovative, and supportive team.
  • Opportunity to shape the content landscape of a rapidly growing platform.
  • Competitive compensation, outstanding benefits package and equity options - a chance to own the future of JAAQ.
  • Private Medical Healthcare / Gym Membership / Professional Development Budget.
  • Breather Days (for when you need to take time out at short notice to rest and recoup).

JAAQ is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.
