We’re looking for a seriously strong Mechanical Design Engineer to step into a key role on major water & wastewater projects across London and the surrounding region. This is a design & build environment, not a theory-only role – you’ll be seeing your designs go all the way from concept through to commissioning.

If you’ve got around 5 years’ experience in the water industry, enjoy owning your work, and want to push towards a Lead Design Engineer position in the near future, this one’s well worth a look.

The Role

  • You’ll be part of a multidisciplinary engineering team delivering mechanical design packages across the full project lifecycle, including:
  • Concept, tender and detailed design
  • Supporting construction and commissioning
  • Client and supply chain engagement
  • Site involvement when required (not desk-bound)

This is a hands-on role where you’re trusted to crack on, make decisions, and add real value.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Delivering mechanical designs from concept through to handover
  • Working to CDM regs, client standards and internal procedures
  • Producing hydraulic calculations for gravity & pumped systems
  • Equipment selection and technical engagement with suppliers
  • Creating equipment schedules and design documentation
  • Supporting and contributing to HAZOPs / design workshops
  • Coordinating with CAD and other engineering disciplines
  • Supporting delivery teams during construction & commissioning

What We’re Looking For

  • Mechanical Engineering qualification (HNC / Degree or similar)
  • Water or wastewater industry experience is essential
  • Ideally ~5 years’ experience in a design & build environment
  • Confident working independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong communicator – written and verbal
  • Full UK driving licence & right to work in the UK

Why This Role?

  • Up to £70k salary depending on experience
  • Hybrid working – mix of office, site & flexibility
  • Clear progression towards Lead Design Engineer
  • Exposure to long-term water frameworks and complex schemes
  • Proper engineering role – not boxed in, not micromanaged

Interested or know someone who fits the bill? Happy to talk through the details confidentially. This is a cracking opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer who wants more responsibility, better projects, and real progression.
