The Role of the Senior Design Engineer

You’ll lead the design and delivery of complex mechanical systems within water and wastewater infrastructure projects. Think treatment plants, pumping stations, chemical dosing systems, and more. You’ll work with a team of 40+ engineers on cutting-edge, sustainable solutions, while mentoring junior staff and influencing key technical decisions.

What You’ll Be Doing as the Senior Design Engineer

  • Lead mechanical design for treatment systems, pumping stations & infrastructure
  • Own projects from concept to construction
  • Develop detailed mechanical specs, surveys & system interfaces
  • Produce and challenge designs to drive innovation and continuous improvement
  • Mentor junior engineers and support the wider team
  • Attend client meetings, present technical designs, and support site visits
  • Collaborate with commercial and PM teams for successful delivery

What You’ll Need to be successful as Senior Design Engineer

  • 5+ years in senior mechanical design roles (preferably water-focused)
  • HNC/HND or Degree in Mechanical Engineering (can be flexible with qualifications - preference would be towards experience and profile)
  • Strong knowledge of chemical dosing, water quality monitoring, and mechanical systems design
  • Proficiency in 2D/3D Autodesk CAD packages
  • Experience coordinating and leading multi-disciplinary teams
