- Lead delivery of geothermal and mechanical system designs across:
<\/li> - Feasibility and concept design (RIBA Stages 1–2)
<\/li> - Scheme design, FEED, and detailed design (RIBA Stages 3–4)
<\/li> - Delivery, commissioning, and operational support
<\/li> - Produce and review:
<\/li> - Feasibility studies, technical reports, and specifications
<\/li> - Concept designs, layouts, and system options
<\/li> - Detailed design documentation and calculations
<\/li> - Develop and review designs for:
<\/li> - Ground heat exchanger systems and geothermal layouts
<\/li> - Plantroom layouts (2D and 3D)
<\/li> - Thermal, hydraulic, and systems models
<\/li> - Size and select:
<\/li> - Heat pumps, DACs, boilers, ACCs, CHPs, and ground loops
<\/li> - Pumps, valves, buffer vessels, DHW cylinders, PHEs, and ancillary equipment
<\/li> - Develop and review:
<\/li> - General and particular mechanical specifications
<\/li> - Control philosophies, control logic, and DESOPS
<\/li> - Mechanical equipment schedules and electrical load schedules
<\/li> - Size ground heat exchangers using industry -recognised software (e.g. GLD, EED)
<\/li> - Carry out and review:
<\/li> - Heat loss and heat gain calculations (IES / Excel)
<\/li> - Energy performance and operational data analysis
<\/li> - Create, maintain, and review engineering calculation spreadsheets
<\/span>
<\/span><\/li><\/ul><\/span>Project & Client Leadership
<\/span>
<\/span>
<\/span><\/b><\/span>- Act as the lead technical interface with clients
<\/li> - Manage and maintain strong client relationships
<\/li> - Lead day -to -day project delivery within:
<\/li> - GED’s internal engineering team
<\/li> - The client’s engineers and external consultants
<\/li> - Review and understand:
<\/li> - Client specifications
<\/li> - Employer’s Requirements and Work Instructions
<\/li> - Identify potential non -compliances, raise them proactively with the client, and develop mitigation strategies
<\/li> - Manage Requests for Information (RFIs) and technical clarifications
<\/li> - Review, approve, and issue:
<\/li> - External meeting minutes and technical notes
<\/li> - Support project management through:
<\/li> - Scope definition
<\/li> - Programme management
<\/li> - Internal budget control
<\/li> - Support variation orders where scope changes occur
<\/li> - Lead project handover activities
<\/span>
<\/span><\/li><\/ul><\/span>Design Coordination & Quality Assurance
<\/span>

<\/span><\/b><\/span>- Lead mechanical design coordination at RIBA Stages 1–2 with:
<\/li> - Architects
<\/li> - Electrical, structural, and BMS designers
<\/li> - Support mechanical coordination at RIBA Stages 3–4, ensuring design intent is maintained
<\/li> - Review and approve developed and detailed designs
<\/li> - Ensure all designs are:
<\/li> - Technically robust
<\/li> - Coordinated across disciplines
<\/li> - Fully compliant with relevant standards and guidance
<\/li> - Support and participate in external design reviews and independent technical validation
<\/span>
<\/span><\/li><\/ul><\/span>Site, Installation & Operational Support
<\/span>
<\/span>
<\/span><\/b><\/span>- Attend and contribute to:
<\/li> - Initial site surveys
<\/li> - Design development meetings
<\/li> - Carry out or support:
<\/li> - Installation inspections and snagging
<\/li> - System troubleshooting and remedial strategy development
<\/li> - Support:
<\/li> - Remote monitoring
<\/li> - Seasonal commissioning
<\/li> - Review of as -built documentation
<\/span>
<\/span><\/li><\/ul><\/span>Mentoring & Team Development

<\/span><\/b><\/span>- Mentor and support Intermediate and Junior Engineers
<\/li> - Review calculations, drawings, and reports produced by junior team members
<\/li> - Provide structured technical feedback and guidance
<\/li> - Contribute to the development of GED’s:

<\/li> - Calculation tools
<\/li> - Engineering workflows and best practices

<\/span>

<\/span><\/b><\/span>- BEng / MEng / MSc in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline
<\/li> - Extensive depth of professional experience in mechanical building services, geothermal, or low -carbon energy system design
<\/li> - Strong technical capability in:
<\/li> - Geothermal and ground source heat pump systems
<\/li> - Mechanical building services design
<\/li> - Low -carbon heating and cooling systems
<\/li> - Proficient in:
<\/li> - Building heat loss and heat gain calculations
<\/li> - HVAC system design and equipment sizing, including:
<\/li> - Heat transfer
<\/li> - Pressure drops
<\/li> - Psychrometrics
<\/li> - Pipework and ductwork sizing
<\/li> - Systems hydraulics and thermodynamics
<\/li> - Very good understanding of:
<\/li> - Heat pump operation, Rankine cycles, mechanical components, and control philosophy
<\/li> - Strong working knowledge of relevant standards and guidance, including:
<\/li> - CIBSE
<\/li> - BSRIA
<\/li> - GSHPA / IGSHPA
<\/li> - HWA
<\/li> - Relevant BS and EN standards
<\/li> - Proficient in:
<\/li> - AutoCAD
<\/li> - GLD / EED
<\/li> - Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
<\/li> - Strong technical writing and client presentation skills
<\/li> - Comfortable working in a small consultancy environment with high responsibility
<\/li> - Right to work and live in the UK.

<\/li> - Certified GeoExchange Designer (CGD) or working towards certification

<\/li> - Experience supervising or line -managing engineers
<\/li> - 10+ years experience in mechanical building services, geothermal, or heating + cooling / low -carbon energy system design <\/span>
