The In-House Maintenance Operative will be responsible for the maintenance, servicing, and repair of all company vehicles and machinery, ensuring they are kept in safe, reliable, and efficient working order. This includes cars, vans, lorries, forklifts, and specialised Bedmaid cubicle bedding machines.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out routine servicing, inspections, and repairs on company vehicles (cars, vans, lorries).
- Maintain and repair material handling equipment, including forklifts.
- Service and troubleshoot Bedmaid cubicle bedding machines, ensuring minimal downtime.
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults using appropriate tools and techniques.
- Maintain accurate service records and schedules for all vehicles and machinery.
- Check MOT status of all company vehicles, arrange MOT tests, and ensure compliance with legal requirements.
- Book MOTs and inspections as required, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
- Order and manage spare parts, consumables, and workshop supplies, liaising with suppliers to ensure availability and cost-effectiveness.
- Provide support in breakdown situations, ensuring rapid and effective repair.
- Keep workshop tools, equipment, and work areas in clean and safe condition.
- Assist in developing preventative maintenance plans to reduce unplanned downtime.
Additional Responsibilities
- Bedmaid Cubicle Bedder Technician Pre-Sale Inspections: Carry out full pre-delivery inspection (PDI) of Bedmaid cubicle bedders before handover. Check mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems for correct operation. Ensure safety guards, decals, and manuals are fitted and complete.
- Servicing & Maintenance: Perform scheduled servicing and routine maintenance. Diagnose and repair faults efficiently to minimise downtime. Keep accurate service and repair records. Provide preventative maintenance advice to customers.
- Spare Parts Management: Organise, stock, and manage spare parts inventory. Liaise with suppliers to order and track parts. Ensure critical spares are available for quick turnaround.
- Remote Dealer & Customer Support: Provide technical support to dealers and customers by phone or video. Talk dealers through troubleshooting and repair solutions step-by-step. Create and share service guides, checklists, and troubleshooting tips. Escalate unresolved issues to senior engineering when required.
- On-Site Support: Carry out on-site service and repairs when remote assistance is not possible. Train dealers and operators on correct use, maintenance, and servicing.
- General Duties: Maintain a clean and organised workshop area. Follow health & safety standards at all times. Provide feedback to design/production teams for product improvement.
