Situated on the coast with outstanding scenery, the nearby residential areas of Westoe, Harton, Cleadon & Whitburn are all on the doorstep of an optometrist looking to make the right move in their career. And for those potential candidates who may be relocating with children the district boasts some exceptional schools including Harton Academy, St. Wilfrids RC College and Cleadon COE Academy to name a few. All of the staff at McGuinness opticians live in South Shields and have children in the local schools and it’s easy to see why. There is very much a ‘think local’ attitude which the practice promotes and some of our patients have been coming to us for over 50 years! Our focus has always been on delivering top quality clinical care. We have achieved this by allowing longer testing times for our optometrists to do the most thorough job possible. There has been considerable investment throughout the practice and further investment is planned for a shop floor refit in the near future too. The ideal candidate would be working alongside the owner optometrist, dispensing optician and experienced optical assistants so you can be assured of a supportive working environment where you will have clinical freedom without any concerns of isolation. We also enjoy attending optical CPD events with colleagues in London & Glasgow. The practice benefits from a newly fitted out testing room with state-of-the-art equipment including Revo FC OCT, Righton MW50 digital slit lamp, and Topcon NW400 fundus camera. All clinical notes are computerized with Optinet Flex practice management software. This is an exciting opportunity for an optometrist who wants to be part of a busy developing practice where they will be actively encouraged to have their say and enhance their clinical skills with the introduction of new technology in the testing room. Ideally, candidates would be willing to work alternate Saturdays and days are generally negotiable/flexible. Usual opening hours are 9am to 5:30pm. The practice is closed on Sundays & Bank holidays. A competitive salary is negotiable & will be dependent on experience. Good transport links with South Shields metro station close by and parking available in the surrounding residential area.
