Job Description
J.S. Held’s EH&S practice partners with organisations to improve safety performance by embedding human factors into systems, processes, and culture. As a Principal Consultant, you will lead complex, multi-sector projects, provide strategic advice to senior stakeholders, and develop innovative solutions that enhance human performance and reduce risk.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders, delivering practical human factors solutions.
- Lead multiple consulting projects, ensuring quality, timelines, and commercial targets.
- Conduct human error assessments, safety critical task analysis, and bowtie risk reviews.
- Apply data analytics to safety performance and design culture improvement programmes.
- Drive human factors integration across asset lifecycles and optimise safety-critical procedures.
- Support organisational change and deliver human factors training to build client capability.
- Develop proposals, grow client accounts, and contribute to thought leadership.
Qualifications
- Degree in Psychology, or related discipline.
- Significant experience in delivering human factors and safety improvement projects across sectors such as Transportation (Rail/Road), Manufacturing, Mining, Chemicals, Pharma, Technology/TMT, Oil & Gas, and Construction.
- Lead client engagements and manage stakeholder expectations.
- Develop proposals and secure new business (seller-doer model).
- Deliver complex projects under tight timelines with commercial accountability.
- Expertise in: SCTA/HRA, bowtie facilitation, safety culture diagnostics, HFI/HF engineering, workload/fatigue assessments, safety-critical procedures, and HF training.
- Strong analytical and presentation skills; ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences.
