Job Description

We are seeking a Managing Consultant or Director to join our Strategic Risk & Advisory team to help drive the growth of our practice across Latin America. This is a unique opportunity for an entrepreneurial, highly driven person with a well-rounded skill set to join the growing Strategic Risk & Advisory team within the Global Risk, Investigations, & Disputes (GRID) practice.

The ideal person for this role will need to have a strong grasp of the political economy of Latin America, and a solid grasp of relevant sectoral knowledge, and be a flexible and strategic thinker able to take on a variety of tasks.

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage and conduct Latin America-focused business intelligence and risk projects
  • Develop and maintain a high level of regional, country, and sectoral expertise
  • Support the growth of J.S. Held’s client base in the region
  • Build and maintain trusted client relationships, while effectively executing client account management plans
  • Plan, manage and deliver complex reputational due diligence investigations
  • Proactively identify business development opportunities and work with senior colleagues to develop new client relationships
  • Support J.S. Held’s marketing initiatives through the production of expert thought leadership
  • Network with key public sector stakeholders to build strong, trusted relationships
  • Represent J.S. Held at relevant events and provide expert commentary to media outlets

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from a top-tier university in a relevant discipline, such as international relations.
  • Experience managing and conducting complex region-specific business intelligence and risk projects, particularly those relating to political analysis and/or stakeholder mapping.
  • Strong knowledge of the continent’s political and commercial dynamics, gained through relevant professional experience and/or having lived or worked in the region.
  • Leverage existing networks of public and private sector contacts in Latin America, for example, journalists, government officials, and business executives, and a willingness to proactively expand these networks.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, particularly the ability to write clear and concise client briefings and reports to tight deadlines with minimal guidance.
  • High levels of dynamism and proactivity, with a ‘can-do’, self-starter attitude.
  • An ability to serve clients with the utmost discretion and diplomacy.
  • Experience in business development, with a genuine enthusiasm for growing J.S. Held’s client base.
  • Language skills beyond English are an added advantage, namely Spanish or Portuguese.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A master’s degree is preferred.

Physical and Mental Job Qualifications

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to travel as needed (20-25%).
