J P Forrest & Son are sub contract engineers specialising in medium-heavy fabricated and machined components up to 20 tonnes, manufactured to customer-specific requirements in small batches or one-offs, such as gearbox housings, main frames and sub-assemblies for industries including Rail, Oil and Gas, Steel making, Renewable Energy, Mining and Quarrying. We are looking for an experienced Machine Shop Supervisor with extensive and relevant machine shop knowledge who can effectively supervise a small team of up to 10 skilled machinists working on both manual and CNC horizontal borers and lathes in our busy Machine Shop. You will have extensive experience of medium-heavy mechanical machining operations and your main duties will be to: * Produce time/cost estimates for machine shop operations. * Plan, program and supervise machine shop operations to ensure jobs are completed correctly and within budget, using CAD/CAM software and Heidenhain / Fanuc controls. * Plan machine shop workload to ensure jobs are completed on time. * Communicate with operators and customers as necessary to resolve machining issues A machine shop supervisor should also have: * Excellent people management skills, including motivation and effective discipline. * Excellent organisational skills * Awareness of Health & Safety legislation, Employment Law and ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management Systems. Working hours are 39 hours per week: Monday to Thursday: 7.30am – 4.30pm Friday: 7.30am – 12.30pm A reasonable degree of flexibility is allowed around these hours
