Overview

We’re looking for a Finance Manager to lead and develop our Management Accounting team. Reporting to the Financial Controller (Accounting), you’ll manage a team of 5–6 (qualified, part-qualified, and non-qualified) accountants responsible for producing accurate and timely monthly management accounts, maintaining the trial balances across four legal entities, and overseeing key balance sheet areas. Strong team management experience is essential. This role is first and foremost about leading, coaching, and developing people, ensuring the team consistently delivers high-quality, well-controlled financial reporting.

You’ll play a key role in maintaining high standards of financial control and accuracy while building an engaged, high-performing team. Collaboration is central to the role — you’ll work closely with the Financial Accountant, colleagues in Tax and Commercial Finance, and wider business stakeholders to meet reporting deadlines and drive continuous improvement across Finance. You’ll also have the opportunity to deputise for the Financial Controller, contribute to finance transformation initiatives, and champion the use of AI and automation to improve efficiency and ways of working. This position focuses on management accounting delivery, statutory reporting support, financial control, and team leadership.

What You Will Do

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of management accountants, supporting performance, progression, and engagement.
  • Build strong relationships across Finance, IT, and wider business teams to ensure alignment and effective collaboration.
  • Own the consolidation and delivery of monthly management accounts and elements of the board pack.
  • Oversee all general ledger activity (excluding debtors and creditors).
  • Ensure key risk areas are identified, reviewed, and addressed appropriately.
  • Review and deliver balance sheet reconciliations to a consistently high standard.
  • Support the preparation of statutory accounts and year-end processes.
  • Manage the preparation and review of audit schedules, liaising with auditors as required.
  • Oversee key compliance requirements (e.g. government surveys and reporting obligations).
  • Review balance sheet reconciliations alongside the Financial Accountant and Financial Controller (Accounting).
  • Play an active role in finance transformation projects and continuous process improvement.
  • Encourage innovative approaches, including the use of AI and automation, to enhance accuracy and efficiency.

What We Are Looking For

  • ACA / ACCA / CIMA qualified (or equivalent).
  • Strong, proven team management experience (essential).
  • Experience of, or strong working knowledge of, stock and stock-related accounting.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Advanced or intermediate Excel skills.
  • The ability to explain complex financial information clearly and confidently.
  • Experience using SUN or similar financial systems (desirable).
  • Retail or consumer industry experience (desirable).

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary & targeted annual bonus scheme.
  • Generous Boden clothing allowance!
  • 30% discount on all current clothing ranges.
  • 25 days Holiday annually.
