Murphy is recruiting for a Senior Estimator to work with Transportation initially in Leeds on the TRUe project for 6 - 12 months, then at the Transportation head office in Wigan supporting the wider business unit. This role could suit a highly experienced SQS looking for a move into Estimating. A day in the life of a Senior Murphy Estimator includes:

  • Establishing and promoting best practice in health, safety and environmental matters in conjunction with the SHQE department.
  • Attending project start-up meetings and making site visits.
  • Producing enquiry schedules for scope of works & packages required from the tender documentation, drawings and specifications issued.
  • Identifying tender deliverables required from the Project Designers.
  • Evaluating returned quotations from suppliers and where necessary entering into correspondence with suppliers to bring quotations in line with the project specification requirements.
  • Preparing BOQ for scopes of projects on estimating programs (such as Excel, Causeway, CCS Candy & Kubus).
  • Inputting to project risk register and attending a project risk meeting in the presence of Estimators, Planning Engineers, Design Co-ordinators and Clients representatives.
  • Attending tender price settlement meetings in the presence of the tender team with Estimating Manager.
  • Attending Tender Handover meetings in the presence of Estimators and projects team.
  • Preparing commercial documents for tender handover to projects team.
  • Carrying out duties/functions under JMS Quality and Health & Safety Management Systems.
  • Assisting the Estimating Manager in promoting interaction with the appropriate functional leader to facilitate successful development of solutions to problems and estimates.
  • Assisting the Estimating Manager in working with the site commercial team to ensure budgets & programs are reflective of actual delivery experience.
  • Making tender amendments where applicable utilising client feedback on submitted tenders.
  • Providing support and responding to tender queries made by project team personnel.
  • In conjunction with the Contract Manager/Senior Management reviewing contract details relevant to the company's ability to deliver under the contract.
  • Reviewing tender documents assessing scope, risks involved, tender complexity and providing feedback to Estimating Manager.
