The Senior Subcontract Buyer role provides a professional procurement service for the CP7 North West and Central framework striving to achieve value for money and high stakeholder satisfaction. The role delivers outcomes and objectives as agreed with the Procurement Manager whilst also managing subcontract procurement for the programme of works. The Senior Subcontract Buyer role sits in the Commercial Team and reports to the Procurement Manager. As this role covers sites across the North West, it will take instruction from Senior Management across the programme of works and provide support to the wider procurement strategy.

A day in the life of a Murphy, Senior Subcontract Buyer:

  • Ensure that appropriate behaviours and ‘best for project’ approaches are always adopted, leading by example in the pursuit of successful delivery.
  • Negotiate directly with suppliers to ensure the best benefits from the best rates and terms for the supply of subcontract packages.
  • Work in partnership with the Procurement Manager, approve bid proposals and specifications to make recommendations.
  • Undertake supplier approval administration duties and supplier relationship building.
  • Progress purchase orders and communicate issues to the wider teams.
  • Placement of orders for subcontract purchases, in conjunction with company guidelines.
  • Provide support to Project teams and wider team disciplines on issues concerning purchasing.
  • Manage the tender process for subcontract packages through Asite.
  • Meet with operational teams and deliver their buying requirements.
  • Ensure savings, rebates and compliance are achieved in line with Murphy procurement strategy and associated policies and procedures.
  • Execute end to end procurement processes, including data collection, document preparation, negotiation, contract award, contract management and supplier relationship management.
  • Manage communication with subcontractors and internal stakeholders.
  • Maintain auditable records in line with governance and contract.
  • Feed into the PPC weekly reporting schedule.
  • Maintain/update the Procurement Schedule.
  • Embed the use of Asite with the project teams.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties required in line with capabilities, the needs of the project, and the wider team.

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent in relevant subject or demonstrable industry experience.
  • CIPS or MCIPS accredited.
  • Must have NEC knowledge and experience of managing a procurement schedule.
  • Proven ability to expertly use a range of relevant software.
  • Utilises negotiation skills where appropriate to influence position outcomes.
  • Ability to present and communicate complex data in a clear and concise manner ensuring clarity and understanding.
  • Personal resilience and ability to respond positively to pressure.
  • Knowledge of or experience of using continuous improvement techniques.
