A day in the life of a Murphy Environmental Advisor or Senior Environmental Advisor involves establishing and promoting best practice in environmental and sustainability matters in conjunction with the SHES function.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Carrying out regular inspections of sites and workplaces to determine compliance with Company Policy, Procedures, and relevant Statutory Provisions.
  • Conducting incident investigations in accordance with Company procedures, analysing data, and making recommendations to prevent reoccurrences.
  • Collating Business/Contract environmental and sustainability statistics in a timely manner for reporting purposes.
  • Reviewing Environmental information to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Developing and implementing Environment & Sustainability campaigns and improvement plans in agreement with SHES Management.
  • Advising and supporting project teams in managing their environmental and sustainability responsibilities.
  • Providing advice, support, and assistance to all project personnel to enable them to manage their environmental responsibilities.
  • Identifying significant Environmental issues for projects and helping to set up appropriate controls.
  • Identifying Environmental & Ecology consents/permits or exemptions required and ensuring they are obtained.
  • Maintaining records to ensure compliance with Legislation, Company procedures, and Contract Requirements.
  • Working in a small team of environmental specialists and liaising with third-party environment and ecology consultants.
  • Sharing best practices within an ever-growing E&S function.

Experience and qualifications required:

  • Experience in an Environmental Advisory role.
  • Qualified with an Environmental Degree.
  • Working knowledge of application of environmental law in the construction industry.
  • Understanding of practical environmental risk mitigation on significant construction projects, including ecological mitigation, consents, licensing, DCO/TCPA planning discharge experience, water management and pollution prevention, biodiversity net gain, waste management, statutory nuisance, and contaminated land.
  • Construction/Infrastructure experience.
  • Associate ISEP membership working towards PISEP is desirable (support for this transition is available).
  • Knowledge of 14001 standards.
