LEAD. MAINTAIN. IMPROVE. KEEP OUR FLEET MOVING.

Are you an experienced HGV Workshop Manager who knows what it takes to keep a busy fleet safe, compliant and on the road? We are looking for a hands‑on, organised and forward‑thinking HGV Workshop Manager to take responsibility for the maintenance, repair and inspection of our growing fleet.

The role

This is a key role within our operation, working closely with the Transport Manager and Planning Team to ensure our vehicles are maintained to the highest standards, downtime is kept to an absolute minimum, and the fleet is available when our customers need it. Working closely with the Transport Manager, you will plan, manage and deliver an efficient fleet maintenance operation, ensuring repairs and servicing are completed safely, professionally and as economically as possible.

You Will

  • Develop and implement an effective, organised maintenance and repair plan for fleet vehicles and trailers.
  • Prioritise repairs and maintenance in line with safety, compliance, operational requirements, time and cost.
  • Manage planned preventative maintenance and responsive repairs to minimise vehicle downtime.
  • Develop and manage a prioritised schedule for inspections, servicing and MOT preparation.
  • Ensure the fleet remains compliant with our operator licence requirements and DVSA regulations.
  • Lead, manage and develop the HGV Workshop team, driving continuous improvement across workshop processes, standards and efficiency.
  • Work closely with the Transport Manager and Planning team to ensure vehicle availability matches operational requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with Transport and Planning colleagues so that planned maintenance and vehicle downtime can be incorporated into operational planning.
  • Respond effectively to urgent repairs and breakdowns in a time‑critical operational environment.
  • Help to build a proactive maintenance culture rather than simply reacting to vehicle defects.

About You

You’ll be a confident leader who can organise a busy workshop, manage competing priorities and make sound decisions when operational pressures are high. We’re looking for someone who can lead from the front, develop their team and work collaboratively with Transport and Planning to deliver the best possible fleet availability.

You Will Have

  • Relevant qualification in HGV repair and maintenance, or significant compensating experience.
  • Valid Category C driving licence.
  • Significant proven experience managing HGV repairs and maintenance.
  • Previous line management and team leadership experience.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of workshop health and safety.
  • A thorough understanding of fleet maintenance requirements, inspections and compliance.
  • Knowledge of Operator Licence and DVSA requirements.
  • Experience working in a time‑critical operational environment where vehicle availability is essential.
  • Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills.
  • The ability to make commercially sensible decisions around repair methods, time and cost.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong working relationships with Transport and Planning teams.
  • A proactive approach to problem solving and continuous improvement.
  • The ability to remain calm, organised and decisive when operational pressures are high.

The package

  • Salary £52k – £60k per annum, depending on experience
  • 45 hours per week, Monday to Friday
  • 1 in 2 Saturdays as required, paid extra
  • Weekly pay
  • 33 days annual leave, including bank holidays
  • Health Care Cash Plan, including dental and optical
  • Contributory pension scheme
  • Group Life Insurance cover
  • Long Service holidays and awards
  • Comprehensive Employee Assist Programme
  • Employee Referral Programme
  • Free skip offered to employees every year
  • Full PPE and branded uniform supplied
  • Lots of fantastic staff engagement events
