We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead the delivery of works on a groundworks/civils programme, operating from Reading. The role is suited to a Project Manager with a strong background working for sub-contractors on major civils and groundworks infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the end-to-end delivery of subcontracted works within the framework, from planning through to handover.
  • Take ownership of programme delivery, ensuring works are completed safely, on time, and within budget.
  • Coordinate site activities, resources, plant, materials, and subcontract labour.
  • Ensure compliance with requirements, client specifications, and relevant industry standards.
  • Produce and submit the SSOW in a timely manner.
  • Ensure the SSOW are being adhered to.
  • Coordinate all Temporary Works and ensure timely submission to maintain program delivery.
  • Administer NEC contracts, including early warnings, compensation events, and change control.
  • Work closely with Principal Contractors, client representatives, designers, and supply chain partners.
  • Lead and promote a strong health, safety, and environmental culture in line with client and company policies.
  • Monitor commercial performance, forecasts, and cost value reconciliation (CVR).
  • Manage risk, mitigation strategies, and opportunities throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure quality assurance processes, inspections, and documentation are completed and maintained.
  • Produce accurate project reporting, progress updates, and site records.
  • Support and mentor site teams, including Engineers and Supervisors.
Key Requirements
  • Proven experience as a Project Manager for a subcontractor on major infrastructure or rail projects.
  • Strong understanding of civil engineering and infrastructure works (e.g. earthworks, structures, utilities, rail civils).
  • Experience working under NEC contracts (NEC3/NEC4).
  • Excellent knowledge of UK health, safety, and environmental legislation.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple work fronts in a complex, high-pressure environment.
  • Commercial awareness with experience managing budgets and cost controls.
  • Degree or HNC/HND in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
  • SC Cleared or ability to obtain.
  • First Aid at Work (desirable).
  • Chartered or working towards chartership (ICE, CIOB, APM) – desirable.
