Purpose of the position

As an integral member of our team, you will contribute to the fabrication of JCPSA steel structures and their components, playing a pivotal role in our production process. The responsibilities of this role require a high level of precision, with a paramount focus on safety throughout all operations. Proficiency in utilising associated equipment, coupled with your experience and qualifications, will be essential in ensuring the accuracy and quality of our products.

Key responsibilities & duties

  • To provide high quality welding and fabricating services to facilitate the smooth & efficient running of the site manufacturing within the Chichester facility.
  • Carry out various other fabricating operations e.g. grinding, cutting, preparation duties as necessary.
  • Read and interpret technical documents and drawings.
  • Utilise hand-held tools i.e. screw guns, drill guns, and grinders for general fabrication tasks, as well as other necessary welding hand tools.
  • Accurately measure using tools like callipers, weld gauges, and measuring devices.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on welding machines to ensure optimal functionality.
  • Continuously assess welding machine performance and technology to enhance efficiency and reduce cycle times.
  • Manage inventory of manufacturing products and welding consumables to support uninterrupted production.
  • Establish specific weldment set-ups and fixing to meet geometric requirements as per specifications.
  • Conduct quality checks throughout the fabrication process to guarantee adherence to quality standards.
  • Identify and document any product defects encountered during fabrication.
  • Perform rework or repair on welded parts and products according to engineering specifications.
  • Execute all work in compliance with established quality standards and safety protocols.

Secondary Duties

  • Effectively communicate with management staff to prioritise work-flow and ensure timely completion of tasks.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment to uphold workplace safety standards.
  • Assist any tasks or comparable duties with trained operatives as required by supervisors.
  • Ensure that the working area is kept tidy, with all appropriate housekeeping duties required and all practices are kept within the Health and Safety guidelines.
  • Complete any Health & Safety tasks or duties as required or requested by management staff.

Work experience & skills & qualifications

  • Proven experience as a welder.
  • Experience using a variety of welding equipment and procedures (MIG, MAG etc.).
  • Experience in using electrical or manual tools (saws, squares, callipers, grinders, cutters etc.).
  • Preference for candidates with experience in a variety of welding techniques, particularly in aluminium and steel materials.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings.
  • Knowledge of relative operational and personal safety standards.
  • Deftness and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in English with literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Successful completion of a relevant apprenticeship/training program is preferred.
  • Professional Certification (e.g. an AWS welding certificate) will be an advantage.

Hours of work: 7:00am to 4:30pm Monday to Friday
