As the Electrical Design Manager at JCB World Headquarters in Staffordshire, you will lead the design and development of electrical systems for JCB’s global power generator product range. Reporting to the Chief Engineer, you will play a major role in ensuring our generators remain among the most advanced, reliable and competitive in the industry. You will manage a team of electrical engineers across the UK and India, supporting the full product lifecycle from concept through to validation, while also helping internal teams resolve complex technical challenges. This is a technical leadership role with real influence over innovation, product performance and global growth.

What does this role involve day to day?

  • Leading the design and development of 12V and 24V control systems.
  • Designing LV power distribution systems ranging from 18kVA to 1MVA.
  • Defining electrical and electronic system architecture.
  • Applying knowledge of generator synchronisation, load testing, protection systems and controls.
  • Ensuring safety‑critical requirements are met within harsh‑environment electrical designs.
  • Specifying electrical and electronic components for machine systems.
  • Signing off validation activities for electrical and electronic components and systems.
  • Developing technical specifications, JCB Group Electrical Standards and engineering instructions.
  • Conducting electrical system reviews to recognised industry standards.
  • Managing and developing an electrical engineering team across the UK and India.
  • Creating progression plans and building high‑performing technical teams.
  • Planning resource and budgets for NPI (New Product Introduction) and CPS activities.
  • Signing off internal technical reviews and engineering documentation.
  • Overseeing cost‑down engineering activities and reviewing proposals.
  • Supporting the development of DVPSOR documentation and validation plans.
  • Leading and reviewing 8D problem‑solving activities.
  • Ordering materials and components required for engineering builds and testing.

This will be suited to you if...

  • You have strong experience in the design, development or operation of power generation equipment.
  • You are educated to at least HND level in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • You understand the legislative and compliance requirements for power generation products.
  • You are confident managing technical teams both locally and remotely.
  • You can demonstrate substantial experience in electrical power generation, power distribution and control systems.
  • You are proficient in Teamcentre or similar PLM tools.
  • You have strong project and supplier management capability with clear commercial awareness.
  • You communicate effectively, collaborate well and bring a practical, hands‑on approach to problem solving.
  • You thrive under pressure and can make informed technical and commercial decisions across multiple projects.
  • You are open‑minded, proactive and demonstrate a “can‑do” attitude.
  • You are willing to travel periodically and visit other JCB sites when required.
