We are seeking an Estimator / Project Manager – Paving who is driven to reach their full potential in the field of construction, reporting to the General Superintendent. While supporting a construction environment, you will work on construction sites and within an office environment. You are committed to maintaining a safe and healthy work environment by actively following and promoting all health and safety policies and best practices. You may be required to work occasional evenings and weekends, and overtime is required as needed to support successful completion of projects.
How you will make an IMPACT
- Preparation of estimates for paving and roadwork projects including municipal roads, parking lots, resurfacing, and related civil works.
- Review plans, specifications, and site conditions for completeness and thorough understanding of the project.
- Perform quantity takeoffs utilizing software such as Bluebeam, Excel, and other estimating tools.
- Develop detailed estimates, including labour, equipment, materials, subcontractors, and production rates.
- Identify risks and opportunities within tender documents and develop pricing strategies accordingly.
- Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations.
- Prepare bid submissions, including tender forms, proposal letters, and supporting documentation.
- Attend site visits and pre‑tender meetings to assess project conditions, constraints, and constructability.
- Act as a trusted advisor to private clients by clearly explaining project scope, paving options, risks, and life‑cycle considerations.
- Evaluate site conditions and client objectives to recommend the most effective, cost‑efficient, and constructable solutions.
- Provide value‑engineered options and practical recommendations to clients during the estimating process.
- Work closely with clients to understand their needs and help shape project scope and approach.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers.
- Analyze historical project data to improve accuracy and efficiency of future estimates.
- Upon award, communicate estimate details, assumptions, risks, and opportunities to the project team.
- Demonstrates commitment to maintaining and promoting a safe, healthy, and compliant work environment in line with company policies and regulatory standards.
Project Management Support (Secondary / As Required)
- Assist with project setup, including defining scope, schedule, and initial planning activities.
- Coordinate materials, subcontractors, and assist with issuing purchase orders.
- Assist with tracking project progress, costs, and schedules.
- Participate in project meetings and support reporting requirements.
- Assist with reviewing and processing invoices and project‑related documentation.
- Support timely invoicing and cost tracking activities.
- Help identify and resolve issues impacting project performance.
- Maintain communication with project stakeholders including field staff, clients, and suppliers.
How you WOW us
- Post‑secondary degree/diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in estimating and/or project management within construction (paving experience strongly preferred).
- Demonstrated experience working directly with clients and providing recommendations and solutions.
- Experience with estimating software (e.g., HeavyBid, Bluebeam) is considered an asset.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent time‑management and organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to confidently interact with clients.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Solid understanding of paving and civil construction practices and procedures.
- Ability to work well independently and within a team environment.
