IWS M&E mitigates and manages risk from mechanical and electrical failures for a wide range of customers in the public and private sectors throughout the UK. An established Principle Contractor and Designer within the MEICA Process sector, IWS M&E’s specialisms include pump diagnostics and refurbishment, turn‑key project management, chemical dosing and control, and plant and infrastructure maintenance with emergency response.

Operating across the UK, 24/7, 365 days a year, we deliver practical and cost‑effective solutions to water, wastewater, and environmental challenges. Due to continued growth across our water framework contracts, we are seeking an experienced Project Engineer (M&E) with a strong background in the water and wastewater sector. This role offers variety, technical challenge, and the opportunity to work on critical infrastructure projects that protect the environment and communities.

The Role: You will be responsible for the successful engineering delivery of mechanical and electrical projects across water and wastewater treatment sites, ensuring safety, compliance, and performance throughout the project lifecycle.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing project scopes, engineering requirements, resource plans, and programmes
  • Ensuring compliance with water industry standards, client specifications, framework requirements, and statutory regulations
  • Leading HAZOP, HAZCOM, FAT, and SAT processes specific to water and wastewater assets
  • Reviewing RAMS and maintaining designer’s risk assessments
  • Managing defect resolution and snagging through to close‑out
  • Promoting a strong safety culture and ensuring compliance with CDM Regulations
  • Reviewing tenders, designs, and subcontractor performance
  • Collaborating with project, engineering, and operations teams to minimise technical and operational risk

What you’ll need:

  • Recognised qualification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • Proven project delivery experience within the UK water or wastewater industry (essential)
  • Experience working on treatment works, pumping stations, networks, or clean/wastewater infrastructure
  • Strong understanding of CDM Regulations and NEC contracts
  • Excellent organisational, planning, and decision‑making skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office and engineering/design tools such as AutoCAD and Revit or Inventor
  • Strong communication skills with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders
  • Full UK driving licence (regular site travel required)
