We’re looking for an M&A intern to join the founding team of manda, a new high‑growth venture within iwoca. Small business owners find it hard to sell their business. Information asymmetry, messy data, and a lack of access to capital lead to an underserved SME market. Leveraging iwoca’s ability to build clean, efficient processes and our deep footprint in the SME economy, we are building a "Market Maker" model to fix this.
This role combines hands‑on experience within the M&A deal engine (first 2 months) with entrepreneurial projects (final 4 months). You'll have the chance to work alongside experienced Transaction Managers, Due Diligence Analysts, and FinTech Engineers, sharpening your knowledge base in M&A and Fintech.
This is a paid off‑cycle internship lasting up to 6 months, with the potential to convert into a full‑time role. The programme is split into two distinct phases to give you both breadth of experience and depth of ownership.
Phase 1: Core M&A Operations (First 2 Months)You will be placed into one or more of our core business functions depending on live deal flow and team priorities. You will be doing real day‑to‑day work, supporting the team where it matters most. Your placement will focus on one or a combination of the following areas:
- Origination: You will help identify businesses that want to sell and secure their consent to represent them. This includes running our "Likely Seller" algorithms on internal data, conducting outreach, and qualifying inbound interest.
- Due Diligence Support: You will support company valuation and due diligence based on data provided from sell mandates. You’ll help turn raw SME data into clear reports that clarify the business model, financial position, and fair valuation.
- Deal Management: You will provide deal support across the active M&A pipeline. This includes managing CRM software, ensuring Virtual Data Rooms are populated correctly, and assisting in the coordination of buyer‑seller Q&A.
- Product & Data: You will analyse complex data to support TAP (tech, analytics, and product). This could include helping map the data schema for a "Digital IM," assisting in automating manual workflows, and turning friction points you identify into product requirements.
Once you build some foundation knowledge, you will create a project proposal together with manda’s Venture Lead to solve a specific problem or seize an opportunity identified. Upon approval, you will spend the remainder of your internship executing this project. You will be supported by and have regular check‑ins with the Lead of manda.
Who You AreYou are both interested in Investment Banking and want to be at the forefront of FinTech innovation. Most importantly you are smart, motivated, humble and have a growth mindset.
- You are need‑driven: You are happy to get your hands dirty. Whether it’s fixing a broken spreadsheet, cold‑calling a lead, or cleaning up CRM data, you do what is needed to move the deal forward.
- You are financially literate: Comfortable with P&Ls, balance sheets, and cashflows. You can look at a set of accounts and ask the right questions.
- You are tech‑curious: You aren’t afraid of new tools and come with your own tech stack. You have interest in softwares that solve CRM, VDR, BI issues.
- You are a clear communicator: M&A is about trust. You can write clear, professional emails and aren’t afraid to pick up the phone.
Available for a full‑time, off‑cycle placement for up to 6 months. Strong academic background (open to all disciplines, though Finance, Economics, or Business preferred). Any experience, projects, initiatives to showcase a genuine M&A or FinTech interest. Bonus: Experience in solving financing or data challenges that SMEs face.
The SalaryThis is a paid internship and comes with annual compensation between £27,000 - £30,000. If the position is converted into full‑time employment compensation will be re‑benchmarked against the new position.
The CultureYou’ll join the founding team building manda as a high‑growth venture within iwoca. We operate with the autonomy and pace of a startup, backed by the infrastructure of a proven fintech scale‑up. At iwoca, we prioritise a culture of learning, growth, and support. We encourage you to explore new areas of interest.
The Offices & BenefitsWe put a lot of effort into making iwoca a great place to work: Offices in London, Leeds, Berlin, and Frankfurt with plenty of drinks and snacks. Events and clubs, like bingo, comedy nights, football, etc. Flexible working hours. Gym discounts and medical insurance access (subject to contract length). Company‑wide talks with internal and external speakers.
