We’re looking for a Senior Credit Risk Portfolio Manager.

About Us

Imagine a world where every small business has the power to thrive. That’s the world we’re building at iwoca. Small businesses aren’t just statistics – they’re the heartbeat of our communities, the character of our high streets, and the engine of our economy. Since 2012, we’ve revolutionised how these businesses access finance, turning what was once a lengthy, frustrating process into something remarkable: funding that’s fast, flexible, and actually works for modern businesses. Our impact speaks for itself: we’ve provided billions in funding to more than 150,000 businesses across Europe, making us one of the continent’s leading fintech innovators. But we’re just getting started. Our mission? To empower one million businesses with the financial tools they deserve. We combine cutting‑edge technology and data science with genuine human understanding to make finance feel less like a barrier and more like a superpower. Whether it’s managing cash flow or seizing unexpected opportunities, we ensure businesses get the funds they need – often within minutes.

The role - Shape the future of small business lending

At iwoca, we’re on a mission to expand access to finance for small businesses. As we continue to grow, we’re looking for a sharp, experienced Senior Credit Risk Portfolio Manager for our German business. This role is central to maintaining our strong credit risk culture and ensuring we scale responsibly and sustainably. You’ll work closely with our Chief Credit Officer, Data Scientists, Capital Markets team, and other stakeholders across the business. Your insights will directly influence credit policy, risk appetite, funding strategy, and our ability to serve more customers with confidence.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Own the portfolio: Monitor credit performance across the DE portfolio—by product, segment, and risk tier. Spot trends early and drive corrective action.
  • Be the voice of credit risk: Provide clear, concise reporting on loss rates and credit profile to the Risk Committee and senior leadership.
  • Support strategic direction: Help shape and manage iwoca’s credit risk appetite and credit policy.
  • Inform funding strategy: Work with Capital Markets to produce compelling, data‑driven risk insights for investors. Ensure we meet performance triggers and concentration limits across funding facilities.
  • Cross‑functional leadership: Bring credit risk expertise to major business initiatives and multi‑disciplinary projects.
  • Lead the team: Set a clear agenda for your team, coach and develop talent, and ensure high‑quality, impactful delivery.

The Requirements

  • A strong analytical mind: A background in Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, or a similarly quantitative field—or equivalent experience.
  • Credit risk expertise: 3+ years in a credit risk role at a traditional or fintech lender.
  • Data‑driven problem‑solver: Skilled at both framing problems conceptually and executing technical analysis. Hands‑on with Python (Pandas, NumPy, SciPy, Matplotlib, Seaborn) and SQL. Bonus points for experience with Monte Carlo simulations, PyMC3, and Bayesian modelling.
  • Confident communicator: Able to turn complex analysis into clear, actionable insight for technical and non‑technical audiences alike.
  • People leader: Experience managing analysts or small team with a focus on coaching and professional development.
  • Execution‑focused: Able to structure and drive work forward independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment.

The salary

We expect to pay from £100,000 for this role, but we’re open‑minded, so definitely include your salary goals with your application. We routinely benchmark salaries against market rates, and run quarterly performance and salary reviews.

We prioritise a culture of learning, growth, and support, and invest in the professional development of our team members. Our friendly and inclusive environment, combined with our flexible work policies, ensures that you’ll have the perfect balance between work and life, empowering you to thrive both personally and professionally.

The offices

We put a lot of effort into making iwoca a brilliant place to work: Offices in London, Leeds, Berlin and Frankfurt with plenty of drinks and snacks. Events and clubs, like bingo, comedy nights, yoga classes, football, etc.

The benefits (depending on your location)
