Your new company

You will be joining a leading global engineering consultancy with an established Facilities Management team in Birmingham.

The team provides specialist advice across the full lifecycle and aftercare of buildings, supporting a range of high–profile clients across the UK, with occasional international work.

Their Facilities Management offering combines strong Mechanical and Electrical engineering expertise with commercial and strategic consultancy, covering areas including condition surveys, asset management, maintenance strategies, lifecycle costing and operational support.

Your new role

As a Facilities Manager / Senior Engineer, you will take a key role in delivering technical Facilities Management consultancy services to clients.

This is not traditional site–based Facilities Manager position.

It is a technically focused consultancy role suited to someone from a Mechanical or Electrical Building Services background who understands how buildings and M&E assets should be operated, maintained and managed throughout their lifecycle.

You will work directly with clients, interpreting their requirements and providing technically informed advice across existing building portfolios, maintenance strategies and operational performance.

Your responsibilities will include

  • Undertaking M&E condition surveys across existing building stock
  • Producing and developing asset registers
  • Preparing maintenance specifications and tender documentation
  • Auditing existing maintenance contracts and service arrangements
  • Providing advice around maintenance costs and lifecycle costing
  • Advising design teams on future operation, access and maintenance requirements
  • Supporting clients with the handover and occupation of new buildings
  • Managing projects from initial client brief through to delivery
  • Producing high–quality technical reports and presentations
  • Managing project fees, budgets, programmes and commercial performance
  • Building strong relationships with internal teams and external clients
  • Identifying opportunities for additional work and helping to secure new commissions
  • Supporting and leading other members of the team
  • Travelling to client sites throughout the UK, with occasional overseas travel
  • What you'll need to succeed

You will have a strong Mechanical or Electrical Building Services background alongside experience within a consultancy environment.

You should be able to demonstrate

  • Previous consultancy experience
  • Strong knowledge of the Facilities Management market
  • Experience across the design, installation and maintenance of M&E building services
  • Knowledge of managing Mechanical and/or Electrical assets and services
  • Strong commercial awareness
  • Project management, planning, costing and programming experience
  • Experience preparing fee submissions
  • Financial management and project budget control experience
  • Excellent client–facing communication skills
  • Strong technical report–writing and presentation skills
  • The ability to solve problems and provide practical technical recommendations
  • Experience leading or managing teams
  • The ability to manage deadlines and work independently when required

You will ideally hold a degree or equivalent qualification in Building Services, Mechanical, Electrical or Environmental Engineering, alongside Chartered Engineer status with a recognised professional institution.

Experience developing client relationships, winning work and helping grow a consultancy service would also be advantageous.

What you get in return

This is an opportunity to join a major engineering consultancy in a senior, client–facing Facilities Management position, combining technical Building Services expertise with asset management, commercial consultancy and project leadership.

Rather than focusing solely on day–to–day facilities operations, you'll have the opportunity to advise clients on how their buildings and M&E assets should be managed over the longer term, working across varied building portfolios and projects.

The overall package includes competitive pay alongside benefits such as profit share, private medical insurance, life assurance, accident insurance, income protection and flexible benefits, as well as opportunities for continued learning and career development.
