An experienced and proactive School Maintenance / Facilities Manager is required to oversee the day‑to‑day management, maintenance and security of a busy educational site in Rugby. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled facilities professional who takes pride in maintaining a safe, secure and well‑presented environment for students, staff and visitors. The successful candidate will lead all aspects of site management, ensuring that buildings, grounds and facilities are maintained to the highest standards and remain compliant with all relevant health and safety regulations. The role requires strong organisational skills, practical maintenance knowledge and the ability to manage contractors, projects and site operations effectively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the maintenance, repair and development of school buildings, grounds and facilities.
  • Ensure the site remains safe, secure, clean and fully operational at all times.
  • Manage site security, including opening and closing procedures, alarm systems and access arrangements.
  • Lead and supervise site staff, contractors and external service providers.
  • Coordinate planned preventative maintenance programmes and statutory compliance checks.
  • Monitor and maintain compliance with health and safety legislation, risk assessments and site inspections.
  • Manage facilities budgets and ensure cost‑effective procurement of services and resources.
  • Arrange and oversee maintenance projects, refurbishment works and contractor performance.
  • Maintain accurate records relating to site compliance, maintenance schedules and inspections.
  • Support emergency procedures and respond appropriately to urgent site issues.
  • Ensure grounds, outdoor spaces and sports facilities are maintained to a high standard.
  • Work closely with senior leaders to support the operational needs of the school.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in facilities management, site management, estates management or a similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of building maintenance, health and safety regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Experience managing contractors and maintenance projects.
  • Ability to prioritise workloads and respond effectively to operational challenges.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Practical problem‑solving abilities and a hands‑on approach.
  • Competent IT skills and experience maintaining compliance records.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding responsibilities within an educational environment.

Desirable

  • IOSH, NEBOSH or equivalent Health & Safety qualification.
  • Experience working within a school, college or public sector environment.
  • Knowledge of statutory compliance requirements relating to educational premises.
