About iwell
At iwell, we are committed to providing clean and affordable energy for all. We aim for cleaner air, water, and a healthier planet through a sustainable power supply. Frustrated by slow institutional progress, we\’ve taken action to build a sustainable energy infrastructure. By using business as a force for good and integrating sustainable goals with smart battery storage solutions, we are transforming Europe’s energy landscape from centralised, fossil-fuel dependence to a local, clean, and dynamic system—one building at a time.

At iwell, we believe that the energy transition should go faster. As market leader in the Netherlands, we set the tone with smart battery systems, and we are expanding this to Germany, UK and Belgium.

Your role

As a Grid Manager at iwell, you will support the success of iwell’s project growth, by leveraging your engineering expertise to manage the technical aspects of our BESS and EMS solutions, working alongside the wider team e.g. Sales Managers, Technical Project Manager. There will be a key focus on grid connections management as the UK will present larger C&I and potentially smaller utility-scale project opportunities.

You will be responsible for overseeing the technical design of our projects, working with our HQ design teams (Utrecht, NL). You will adopt a collaborative and hands-on approach throughout the project lifecycle and will manage managing cross-functional relationships internally and externally e.g. customer and EPCs that will be sub-contracted by iwell or the customer.

You’re never afraid to explain technical details to customers, but you don’t need to lead or close sales directly. That’s what you have sales colleagues for!

Key-responsibilities

  • Design and develop tailored BESS and EMS solutions for clients, integrating key engineering principles e.g. electrical, civil etc.

  • Support the grid connection process, from feasibility through to energisation e.g. managing relationship with DNO and National Grid, optimising grid applications, managing connection agreements, and compliance.

  • Assess electrotechnical installations at customer’s sites, working with the Technical PM. Conduct site assessments and feasibility studies to determine optimal technical project configurations.

  • Attend client meetings alongside sales colleagues when required, offering technical support / pre-sales and post-sales engineering.

  • If required, create Single Line Diagrams to provide clarity on the solution and create a clear demarcation between the involved parties.

  • Collaborate with the engineering and product development teams in HQ to provide customized solutions that meet client requirements.

  • Along with the Technical PM, manage EPC 3rd parties who are sub-contracted by iwell or the end-customer.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

  • Strong experience with UK DNO network, and understanding of grid connection process (applications, compliance etc).

  • Proven experience in a technical / engineering role, preferably within the energy sector (i.e. experience interaction with customers during the sales process).

  • A prior understanding of BESS for C&I would be a real advantage.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical audiences.

  • Self-motivated with a proactive approach to identifying potential business opportunities / upselling that the sales team can then pursue.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

  • Willingness to travel for site visits as required.
