Our Barnardo’s Gardeners support us in carrying out general gardening duties and tidying outdoor areas in our regulated settings.

We are looking for enthusiastic individuals to join our team, with a love of the outdoors and an interest in supporting children and families to engage with outdoor play and growing activities.

The Isle of Wight has 8 Family Hubs/Centres across the Island that require green-fingered gardeners to help us maintain outdoor spaces and create warm, welcoming, and safe environments for families, children, and visitors.

  • Reliable, punctual, and trustworthy.
  • Approachable and welcoming.
  • Mindful of safety and proper storage of resources.
  • Understanding of diversity and equal opportunities policies.
  • Knowledge of accessibility, child protection, complaints, confidentiality, and health and safety policies.
  • Ability to provide ongoing support.
  • Suitable for the Duke of Edinburgh Award, supported volunteering, and under 16s and 18s.
  • Only suitable for students aged 16-18 who can support centres during the week regularly.
