Are you a technical accountant who wants to contribute to keeping Hertfordshire safe? The Constabulary in Hertfordshire is a modern, proactive, and flexible police force. The county has one of the fastest-growing populations in the country, which is bringing significant increases in demand for policing services and exciting opportunities for the future.

The Finance department forms a critical function in the organisation to ensure that funding is best utilised to provide a high-quality policing service to the people of Hertfordshire. The Principal Accountant will work closely with the Chief Accountant, managing a team responsible for ensuring all aspects of the Constabulary’s management and financial accounts are undertaken efficiently and effectively. This includes leading on the production and monitoring of the revenue budget and capital programme and playing a lead role in the closure of accounts. A key focus of the role will be helping develop a high performing team focused on adding value.

To be suitable for the role you need to be a fully qualified accountant with proven experience of managing or supervising staff. Exposure to supporting the closure of accounts in a complex public sector is also essential, although applications from those with an external audit background are highly encouraged.
