A national rail operator is looking for an Assistant Audit Manager to support internal assurance processes across financial and operational areas. This role offers a unique opportunity to work across departments, supporting risk mitigation and continuous improvement, with a direct line into senior leadership and the Audit & Risk Committee.
You’ll support the Internal Audit Manager in reviewing financial practices, business processes and compliance, while identifying areas for efficiency, control enhancements, and regulatory adherence.
Key Responsibilities:- Assist in delivering the internal audit programme across finance, operations, and business processes.
- Conduct internal audits, report findings, and recommend improvements in line with best practice.
- Support senior leadership with timely insights into controls, risks and procedural compliance.
- Contribute to executive-level reporting and presentations for the Audit & Risk Committee.
- Collaborate across teams to promote a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
- Maintain awareness of regulatory standards and ensure audit activities align with requirements.
- Experience in internal audit, financial controls or compliance in a regulated environment.
- Strong analytical skills and a detail-oriented approach to reviewing procedures and documentation.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to influence and build rapport across levels.
- Familiarity with risk management, audit standards and corporate governance practices.
- Team player mindset with ability to work cross-functionally and adapt in a dynamic setting.
- Qualification in accounting or auditing (ACA/ACCA/CIA) preferred but not essential.
