Are you an experienced Veterinary Surgeon looking to make your mark in a supportive and thriving practice? At Sprinz & Nash, we’re searching for a confident vet to join our friendly, dedicated team, someone who’s ready to establish themselves, bring fresh ideas, and help our practice continue to grow. Whether you prefer the energy of hospital life, the independence of branch work, or a mix of both, we’re open to finding the right balance for you.
A Well-Equipped Practice with Character
Our main hospital in Thame is full of charm, set within a converted house that’s been thoughtfully adapted into a modern clinical space. You’ll find a large, airy reception with separate dog and cat waiting areas, three consult rooms (including one dedicated to nurse clinics), and a fully equipped prep and theatre suite. We also have a dental suite, separate wards for cats, dogs, and isolation cases, and a dispensary supported by our brilliant dispensing nurse. For your convenience, we’ve got an in‑house lab with Zoetis, biochemistry, and haematology machines, plus X‑ray, dental X‑ray, ultrasound, and endoscopy facilities—everything you need to deliver gold‑standard care. And when it’s time to take a break, our staff room offers kitchen facilities, a great coffee machine, and a regular delivery of treats to keep spirits high. Our Princes Risborough branch has recently been fully refurbished and offers a smaller, close‑knit working environment and provides sole‑charge opportunities for those who enjoy autonomy. You’ll also have the option to live on‑site, making it easy if you’re relocating to the area.
A Varied Caseload and the Tools to Do It Well
This role offers a lovely mix of consulting and surgery, with a slight bias toward consults and a dedicated surgery day each week. Our caseload includes cats, dogs, rabbits, and small furries and occasionally even the odd chicken. From routine spays and castrates to soft tissue surgery, lump removals, dentals, and the occasional GDV, you’ll have the scope to use your full range of skills. We encourage thorough medical workups and proactive diagnostics, giving our vets the time and tools to provide truly high‑quality care. And when a case requires referral, we have excellent relationships with local specialist centres to ensure continuity for our clients.
A Supportive Team That Feels Like Family
At Sprinz & Nash, we’re incredibly proud of our close‑knit, welcoming team. You’ll be joining six vets supported by ten fantastic RVNs and a dedicated client care team of 14 covering reception, administration, and animal care. Among our vets, we have two medicine certificate holders, with another currently studying cardiology, and one of our RVNs has an anaesthesia certificate. If you’re looking to further your own skills or complete a certificate, we’ll happily support you, whether that’s starting a new qualification or helping you transfer one already in progress. Professional development is something we truly value here.
Flexible Rota and No Out‑of‑Hours
We’re ideally looking for a full‑time vet, working 40 hours over four or five days, but we’re equally open to part‑time applications. There’s no out‑of‑hours work, although our nurses do stay onsite with our in‑patients, so you can enjoy your evenings and weekends with family, friends, or exploring everything our beautiful local area has to offer.
Rooted in the Community
We’re passionate about giving back and are proud to work closely with local charities, including Cats Protection, supporting the welfare of animals in our community. It’s all part of our commitment to care for our patients, our clients, and our wider community.
Life in Thame
Nestled in the heart of Oxfordshire, Thame is a charming market town that perfectly balances countryside calm with easy access to city life. You’ll find a wonderful mix of shops, cafés, and restaurants, with regular markets bringing the community together. The nearby Chiltern Hills offer endless opportunities for walking, cycling, and exploring, while Oxford and London are both within easy reach for days out or weekend adventures. Whether you’re looking for peaceful countryside living or vibrant local life, Thame and its surroundings offer the best of both worlds.
