We are seeking an enthusiastic, team-orientated Senior Laboratory Technician to join our team at Donnington Grove on a part-time basis. Donnington Grove Veterinary Group, based in the Newbury area, is part of inspiring vet care. Practice Highlights
- Multidisciplinary veterinary laboratory analysing a wide range of animal medical samples using modern diagnostic technologies
- Exposure to diverse laboratory disciplines including clinical chemistry, haematology, serology, microscopy, cytology, parasitology, microbiology and PCR
- Hands-on experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), including sample registration and result reporting
- Involvement in essential laboratory operations including instrument maintenance and calibration, quality control, stock management and waste disposal procedures
How You’ll Make a Difference
As a Senior Laboratory Technician, you will play a key role in delivering accurate and reliable diagnostic results that support veterinary professionals in providing exceptional patient care. Working within a multidisciplinary laboratory, you will perform a variety of diagnostic tests including clinical chemistry, haematology, serology, microbiology and PCR, while supporting the efficient day-to-day running of the laboratory. From sample processing and result reporting through our LIMS to equipment maintenance, quality control and stock management, your work will help ensure the highest standards of laboratory service and diagnostic excellence.
Working Pattern
Part-time 35 hours per week Tuesday - Friday, 8:30am - 5:00pm, with some Bank Holiday cover required during the equine season Saturdays, 8:00am - 12:00pm
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine laboratory testing and investigations, including PCR, serology, biochemistry, immunoassays and result validation
- Manage the receipt, processing, storage and disposal of samples while maintaining quality control and turnaround times
- Maintain laboratory equipment, working areas, reagents and stock levels in line with SOPs and laboratory standards
- Identify, resolve and escalate technical, quality or maintenance issues appropriately to senior staff
- Support the wider laboratory function through workload prioritisation, client communication, training and other duties as required
