We are seeking an enthusiastic, team-orientated Registered Veterinary Nurse to join our team at Nithsdale Vets on a full‑time basis. We are a two‑site small animal practice based in Thornhill and Dumfries, both equipped to a high standard to support excellent clinical care. With a wide and varied caseload, you’ll have the opportunity to develop your skills across a broad spectrum of medical and surgical cases.
Our facilities include:
- DR‑digital X‑ray
- New in‑house IDEXX laboratory suite (ProCyte/Catalyst)
- New ultrasound machines
- Dental units and dental X‑ray (Dumfries site)
- Multiparameter monitors and blood pressure monitors
- Flexible endoscope and Tonopen (Dumfries site)
As a Registered Veterinary Nurse, you will be an integral member of the clinical team, delivering high‑quality nursing care to patients while supporting excellent client experiences. You’ll work collaboratively with veterinary surgeons and the wider practice team, taking responsibility for the nursing care of a range of first‑opinion cases, contributing to clinical standards, and supporting the ongoing development of patient care within the practice. The role is based on a Monday to Friday rota, with participation in a shared weeknight and weekend on‑call rota. The current rota typically consists of 4 to 4.5‑day working weeks. Weekend on‑call duties include working Saturdays from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.
General responsibilities include:
- Deliver high standards of patient and inpatient nursing care
- Monitor anaesthesia and assist with surgical procedures
- Run nurse clinics and provide preventative healthcare advice
- Maintain accurate patient records and clinical documentation
- Support veterinary surgeons and assist with diagnostics and laboratory procedures
- Communicate effectively with clients and support the wider practice team

- Registration as a Veterinary Nurse with the RCVS
- Experience working in clinical practice, with growing confidence in medical and surgical nursing
