Surgical Veterinary Nurse in Cramlington

We are seeking an enthusiastic, team-oriented Surgical Veterinary Nurse to join our team at Moorview Referrals on a full-time or part-time basis.

Moorview Referrals is a busy, purpose-built referral hospital located in beautiful Northumberland, within easy reach of the stunning coastline and the vibrant city of Newcastle upon Tyne. Our modern facility is equipped to the highest standards, including four operating theatres (one with fluoroscopy), CT and MRI scanners, multiple ultrasound machines, and advanced endoscopy equipment. We are a large, supportive clinical team with expertise in many different areas, working together to deliver exceptional patient care across a wide range of disciplines. We offer referral services in orthopaedics, soft tissue surgery, neurology, internal medicine, ECC, and cardiology, providing a varied and rewarding caseload.

This is an exciting opportunity to work across a diverse range of surgical departments, including Orthopaedic, Soft Tissue and Spinal cases. With such a varied and complex caseload, you’ll have the opportunity to develop your clinical skills, gain experience with advanced procedures and broaden your knowledge across the surgical field, all while being supported by our experienced and friendly team.

How You’ll Make a Difference

As a Surgical Veterinary Nurse, you will be an integral member of the clinical team, delivering high-quality nursing care to patients while supporting excellent client experiences. You’ll deliver advanced nursing care to complex cases within a referral hospital environment, supporting patients, clients, and clinical teams within the surgery service. You’ll work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary hospital team, contributing specialist nursing expertise to patient care, supporting clinical decision-making, and sharing knowledge with colleagues to continually improve standards within your team.

You’ll work a flexible rota covering 40 hours between 8 am and 8 pm, with a choice of either 5 x 8-hour shifts or 4 x 10-hour shifts to suit your lifestyle. You’ll also join a 1:5 weekend rota (two 12-hour shifts with TOIL), and take part in our bank holiday and Christmas cover, with occasional support across other departments when needed. We would be happy to consider part-time hours for the right person.

General responsibilities include:

• Diagnostic imaging such as CT and radiography
• Monitoring anaesthesia
• Supporting patient recovery
• Preparing patients for theatre
• Scrubbing in to procedures where required

We’re looking for a confident and motivated Registered Veterinary Nurse who enjoys working as part of a team and delivering high standards of care. You’ll bring:

• Registration as a Veterinary Nurse with the RCVS
• Experience working in clinical practice, with growing confidence in surgical nursing
• Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with clients and colleagues
• Good organisational skills and the ability to manage workload effectively
• A proactive approach to learning, reflection, and continuous improvement

This role is well-suited to someone with experience in surgery, anaesthesia (including more complex cases), and who is passionate about providing high standards of patient care. While referral experience would be advantageous, we welcome applications from RVNs of all experience levels and backgrounds as our knowledgeable and supportive team can provide full training in this role.

With a wide range of clinical interests across the team, this is an excellent opportunity for anyone keen to develop their skills further - particularly in anaesthesia, analgesia, radiography, and advanced imaging.
