Practice with Deep Roots and a Warm Welcome
Penmellyn Vets is a six-site small animal practice based in the heart of mid Cornwall, proudly serving the local community for over 130 years. We are looking for a veterinary surgeon to join our friendly, supportive team who values the client journey as much as excellent patient care and wants to be part of a practice that truly puts people and pets first.
A Varied Caseload That Keeps Things Interesting
Our clients bring us cats, dogs, rabbits, small furries and the occasional local wildlife needing help. You can expect a healthy and rewarding balance between consultations and surgery, with a genuine openness to supporting your clinical interests. Our central hospital in St Columb Major is supported by satellite surgeries in St Austell, Newquay, Pool, Bodmin and Padstow, giving variety without losing that close‑knit feel.
Hospital-Level Facilities at Your Fingertips
As a hospital practice that accepts referrals, our surgical caseload ranges from routine procedures through to orthopaedics and advanced soft‑tissue work. You will have access to an impressive array of equipment including CT, laparoscopy, endoscopy, digital and dental X‑ray, laser therapy and more, all designed to help you practice to a high clinical standard.
Designed for People as Well as Patients
Our purpose‑built hospital features a large, welcoming reception, six consultation rooms (including a dedicated RVN consult room), a spacious central prep area with four theatres, dedicated dental and scanning suites, separate kennels, cattery and isolation wards, and a fully equipped in‑house IDEXX laboratory. There are also comfortable office spaces, a well‑equipped staff room and a large on‑site car park to make day‑to‑day life that little bit easier.
Balance That Respects Your Life Outside Work
This is a full‑time position working over 4 days a week. You will partake in a 1:5 weekend rota 8:30am – 4pm where you will get time off during the week. There is no OOH or on‑call and part‑time applications are welcome.
A Team That Has Your Back
You’ll be joining a team of 28 vets supported by an experienced group of RVNs and a client care team led by our practice manager. We are proud to have certificate holders and advanced practitioners in orthopaedics, soft‑tissue surgery, ECC, cardiology and medicine, alongside visiting specialists in ophthalmology and cardiology. If you’re interested in working towards a certificate of your own, we would be very happy to support you.
