Academy Veterinary Centre is a supportive, mixed animal practice located in the lovely town of Stranraer in Dumfries and Galloway. Galloway is a hidden gem with quiet hills, stunning beaches and forests to explore. Stranraer is the main town in west Galloway with supermarkets, shops and leisure facilities. The railway station provides services to Ayr and Glasgow or you can hop on the ferry to Belfast. The nearest airports are Prestwick and Glasgow International. Two main roads provide access to Glasgow, Carlisle and Edinburgh.
We have a supportive and friendly team of 11 Vets, 3 RVNs and a super administrative team. Our fantastic Clinical Director holds a CertAVP (Cattle). As a well‑established, mixed practice with an excellent reputation we have the equipment and facilities you would expect including full IDEXX suite, new small animal ultrasound, digital X‑ray, endoscope, easiscan go scanning with tablet screens, the latest bull and tup fertility testing equipment, automated worm and fluke in‑house analyser and electric equine rasp.
You will work 42.5 hours per week. Our working day is 8:30 a.m. – 6 p.m., Monday to Friday and 9 a.m. – 12 a.m. on Saturdays. We take pride in providing our own out‑of‑hours service to our clients. Our excellent on‑call rota strikes a balance between time working and supporting each other. We always have a backup second on call. We work 1 in 10 weekends first on call, 1 in 10 weekends second on call and 1 in 10 weekends for a Saturday morning. During the week we work one night alternating between first and second on call. You will be assigned a VetGDP mentor as well as being part of a dynamic and enthusiastic team of Vets and support staff at all stages of their careers. 50:50 Small/Large animal caseload split.
