Southern Counties Veterinary Specialists is a specialist-led, referral-only hospital located in the heart of the New Forest, offering advanced veterinary care across a wide range of disciplines.
Our multidisciplinary team includes specialists in Anaesthesia, Cardiology, Dermatology, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Soft Tissue and Orthopaedic Surgery, Ophthalmology, and Diagnostic Imaging.
We also provide comprehensive rehabilitation services, including physiotherapy and hydrotherapy using an underwater treadmill, ensuring exceptional patient care from diagnosis through recovery.
Our surgery intern program is aimed at motivated veterinary surgeons, who will play a key role in the management, monitoring, and treatment of our patients.
Our intern will rotate between Soft Tissue, Orthopaedic Surgery and the out of hours service, over a twelve-month period.
A surgery internship is the first step towards specialist training.
For others, the skills and knowledge they have acquired during the internship can be brought to a general practice setting.

How You’ll Make a Difference
As a Veterinary Intern, you will undertake a recognised EBVS (or equivalent) approved specialist training programme under the supervision of a recognised Specialist.
You will be an integral member of the referral hospital team, delivering advanced veterinary care while developing specialist clinical, professional, and academic competencies.
This role involves managing complex cases under supervision, participating in out-of-hours and weekend duties, and actively engaging in teaching, research, and clinical governance activities.
