Registered Veterinary Nurse – Small Animal (FTC)

We are looking for a dedicated Registered Veterinary Nurse to become a part of our Nursing team to cover a 12-month fixed term maternity cover period from September 2025 onwards based at our Fishguard Practice. You will be led by our Head Nurse and supported by our Nursing Team.
Responsibilities
- Nursing care for hospitalised and day patients, including monitoring anaesthetics and assisting during surgeries and procedures.
- Carrying out procedures such as nail clipping and dental checks, administering medications and vaccinations.
- Assisting with infection control, stock management, equipment maintenance and waste control.
- Assist with house visits, oversee and train ANAs and nursing students, dispense pharmaceuticals, use laboratory equipment, and assist with marketing.
- Adhere to health and safety policies and support the Vet Team as required.
- Provide clinical coaching experience (desirable) as the role includes training Student Nurses/ANA\’s.
Working pattern and team
The standard shift pattern is 37.5 hours across 5 days from 8:30am to 5:00pm, plus 1 in 5 Saturdays on a shared rota. In practice you may be involved in Out of Hours services and In Patient Care on a case-by-case basis to support the Vet Team.
Location and facilities
Fishguard and Pembrokeshire locations with access to a range of facilities including hydrotherapy with an aquatic treadmill, a main small animal surgery in Haverfordwest offering surgery, dentistry, internal laboratory, ultrasound, radiography, and endoscopy, and a Vet Led base in Fishguard with hydrotherapy and rehab/physio teams. Both sites have laser equipment available.
Team and development
We are a blended team of veterinary surgeons, registered veterinary nurses, and student nurses, supported by a Practice Manager and reception team across three sites. We have an advanced practitioner in Small Animal Surgery and ongoing opportunities for skill development, including acupuncture and rehabilitation support.
