We are delighted to open applications for an Out of Hours Veterinary Nurse to join our exceptional team at Blaise Veterinary Referrals in Longbridge, Birmingham. Our veterinary hospital is one of the largest multidisciplinary referral hospitals in the UK, treating up to 10,000 pets a year with state‑of‑the‑art equipment. We provide services in Anaesthesia & Analgesia, Cardiology, Diagnostic Imaging, ECC, Internal Medicine, Interventional Radiology, Neurology, Oncology, Orthopaedics & Soft Tissue Surgery. Blaise offers a specialist‑led 24‑hour emergency and critical care service in partnership with Vets Now, delivering out‑of‑hours and emergency pet care for Birmingham and surrounding areas.

How You’ll Make a Difference

As an Out of Hours Veterinary Nurse you will deliver advanced nursing care within a busy OOH service, supporting complex cases in an emergency setting. You’ll work collaboratively within a large team, contributing specialist nursing expertise to patient care, supporting clinical decision‑making, and sharing knowledge with colleagues to continually improve standards within your discipline.

Role

This full‑time role follows a 4 on, 4 off shift pattern (20:00‑07:25), averaging 40 hrs a week. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Emergency triage and procedure nursing.
  • Inpatient care within our ICU, general, and isolation wards.
  • Monitoring anaesthesia for emergency surgeries.

You Might Be a Great Fit If...

  • Registration as a Veterinary Nurse with the RCVS.
  • Significant experience in clinical practice with advanced nursing skills in OOHs, inpatient care, and/or ECC.
  • Experience working with complex emergency cases in a hospital setting.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • A commitment to evidence‑based practice, clinical governance, and continuous improvement.
